Job Title: Material Handler
Job Description

The Material Handler supports warehouse operations by safely handling, storing, and moving materials, supplies, parts, and finished goods. This role focuses on shipping, receiving, storage, and order fulfillment while maintaining high standards of quality, accuracy, and safety. The position involves working at various heights on powered industrial equipment, including a cherry picker forklift, and operating in multiple temperature zones within the facility.

Responsibilities

  • Pick, pack, sort, arrange, count, store, and process items for storage and shipment in accordance with established procedures and customer requirements.
  • Ensure orders are fulfilled accurately and on time so customers receive the correct products within requested timeframes.
  • Receive materials and finished goods daily, verifying the quality, type, and quantity against accompanying documentation such as packing lists.
  • Accurately document and process incoming and outgoing shipments using established systems and procedures.
  • Operate powered industrial trucks, including equipment that reaches various heights, after completing required training.
  • Work safely and efficiently in warehouse areas with varying temperatures, including room temperature, cold-room, and freezer-room environments.
  • Follow all distribution and quality standards, including document control and quality policies, as outlined in company training and procedures.
  • Use basic computer systems, including ERP systems, email, and shipping software, to support daily warehouse operations.
  • Monitor and understand team and operational metrics, recognizing and reporting deviations from standard practices.
  • Maintain strong attendance and be ready to start work on time each day to support consistent operational performance.
  • Follow instructions for routine work independently and seek guidance for new or complex tasks as needed.
  • Handle packaged hazardous materials in accordance with safety and handling procedures.
  • Perform repetitive physical tasks, including walking, standing, reaching, lifting, pushing, pulling, and climbing throughout the shift.
  • Support a safe, organized, and clean work area in compliance with safety and operational guidelines.
Essential Skills
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 0–2 years of related experience in material handling, warehousing, or logistics.
  • Ability to operate powered industrial trucks and warehouse equipment at various heights, including cherry picker and reach truck, after training.
  • Comfort working at heights and willingness to be trained on cherry picker forklift.
  • Basic computer skills with the ability to navigate ERP systems, email (such as Outlook), and shipping software.
  • Ability to consistently and independently follow policies, procedures, and instructions while meeting schedules and deadlines.
  • Strong attention to detail to ensure accurate shipping, receiving, and inventory handling.
  • Good communication and customer service skills for effective interaction with internal personnel.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and regularly lift, push, and pull up to 25 lbs.
  • Ability to work in environments with varying temperatures, including room temperature, cold-room, and freezer-room conditions.
  • Reliability and strong attendance, with the ability to start work on time daily.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Some experience in logistics within a life science or similar environment preferred.
  • Experience as a material handler, forklift operator, or power industrial vehicle operator is beneficial.
  • Familiarity with shipping, receiving, and inventory control procedures is an advantage.
  • Ability to interpret and understand team and operational metrics.
  • Flexibility to work different shifts, varying schedules, and overtime as needed.
  • Willingness to complete on-the-job training and standard training protocols for distribution operations.

Work Environment

This role is based in a warehouse environment with varying temperature zones, including room temperature (approximately 59–86°F), cold-room (approximately 36–46°F), and freezer-room (approximately -4–23°F). Work is highly repetitive and physically active, requiring continuous walking, standing, reaching, and lifting up to 25 lbs, with regular pushing and pulling up to 25 lbs and occasional lifting up to 50 lbs. You will routinely climb and may occasionally sit, kneel, crouch, or crawl as tasks require. The noise level ranges from moderate to high. You may handle packaged hazardous materials while following safety procedures. The schedule includes an 8:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m. shift with potential earlier start times (such as 6:00 a.m. or 7:00 a.m.) depending on operational needs, and a 10:30 a.m.–7:00 p.m. second shift option. You must be available to work any shift with advance notice of shift changes and be flexible for varying hours and overtime as needed. Occasional local travel may be required. The environment can involve varying degrees of stress throughout the day due to operational demands, and appropriate work attire suitable for warehouse and freezer conditions is expected.

This is a Contract position based out of Greencastle, PA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.50 - $20.35/hr.
