AFO is looking for a Heavy Equipment Operator to work in Redstone Arsenal, AL. Serves as Heavy Equipment Operator responsible for operating heavy equipment, such as cranes, graders, loaders (Rubber Tired Truck), dozers, excavators, rollers, scrapers, vacuum truck, backhoe, tractors, and tractor-trailer trucks.

Responsibilities- Maintains and repairs roads, shoulders and other appurtenances to include paved and graveled roads, parking lots, hardstand, sidewalk, bridges, open storage areas, and other items or areas assigned.
- May be required to interpret simple plans, operate to grade, slope stakes. Grease, adjust and make emergency repairs to equipment.
- May be required to operate chain saws, jackhammer, and various other small equipment, hand and power tools.
- May be required to operate MVO Heavy equipment when directed.
- Performs daily preventive and operator maintenance of equipment prior to operation.
- Performs Heavy Equipment Operator duties as member of HAZMAT Spill Team.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Accomplish all assigned duties and responsibilities in accordance with Contract, Corporate policies/procedures, and applicable federal and state laws. Accountable for performance of assigned duties to the assigned supervisor.
Qualifications- Must have or obtain, at own cost, within 60 days of employment a valid Commercial Drivers License (CDL) with, as a minimum, a Class “A” endorsement.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience within past 5 years operating above-described heavy equipment. Must be able to pass Government Administered Driver’s Exam on required equipment.
- Good Physical conditioning required. Position requires frequent heavy lifting of more than 80 pounds and requires working while exposed to inclement weather.
- Must be familiar with applicable local, federal, and state traffic, driving, and overall vehicle operations, laws, and regulations.
- Must be able to write legible and read.
- Must be tactful and cooperative in dealing with others.
- Ability to successfully pass any background checks and/or drug testing required on the contract.
- U.S. Citizenship.
Preferred Job Requirements:
- 40-hour HAZMAT course and required annual 8-hour HAZMAT refresher course and be a member of the HAZMAT Team.
