Position: Heavy Equipment Operator

Division: Metal Source

Status: Full Time / Hourly

SUMMARY: The Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for safely operating the heavy equipment in our recycling yards.

REPORTS TO: Yard Supervisor / Yard Manager

SUPERVISES: N/A


ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform pre- and post-operation inspection of the equipment in accordance with Company policy to ensure windows, lights, mirrors and rear-view camera are clean and operational.
  • Perform and document minor service on equipment, referring to more complicated mechanical issues to Maintenance Shop for repair.
  • Operate material handling crane to move material within the yard.
  • Load and unload trucks / trailers of material with crane or other material handling equipment.
  • Process and prepare scrap metal material for shipping per instructions.
  • Direct customers within the yard and help customers unload material.
  • This position will be cross trained to help in other areas of the yard as needed.
  • Regular and timely attendance is an expectation of the position.
  • Follow the 5S foundations for deploying lean production tools and processes.


Requirements

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • Previous Heavy Equipment Operator experience preferred.
  • High School Diploma preferred but not required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Physical Activity: Talking, hearing, repetitive motion, stooping, crouching, standing, walking, lifting, and climbing stairs.
  • Physical Requirements: Exerting up to fifty (50) pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to twenty-five (25) pounds of force frequently, and/or up to ten (10) pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Visual Acuity: ability to operate machinery and determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned including making general observations of facilities.
  • The worker is subject to environmental conditions. Some protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes. Also subject to dust, dirt, and extreme noise.
