Aspiration:CSDB builds generations of thinkers, makers, and leaders who set new standards and transform the world.These are full-time positions (0.85 FTE) scheduled to work 40 hours per week on an academic-year schedule (approximately August to mid-June, as per the established school calendar, subject to change), and is assigned to work in the Student Life Programs.
The purpose of the Student Life Program is to provide Deaf/hard-of-hearing, blind/visually impaired and/or emotionally/behaviorally disturbed students with a residential living arrangement that reflects a home-like setting in an educational environment.
The position of Health Care Technician II is responsible to ensure the safety, accountability and well-being of residential students through the after-school hours, and to offer support and learning opportunities presented by the curriculum (a program for the development of living skills) and through collaboration with other staff members who work with assigned students.
Duties include but are not limited to:Ensure a safe environmentProvide a safe and secure environment for students by constant observation of the students, their behaviors and the environment. Provide support and assistance for students with limited mobility. Responsible for the appearance and quality of property in the dorm. Maintain a clean dorm environment by regularly performing tasks such as vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, sanitizing, and dusting. Clean up bodily fluids when incident occurs. Collaborate with parents and staff to address student medical or behavioral concerns. Perform other related duties as assigned.
Plan student activitiesPlan and supervise stimulating dorm activities to enhance student self-esteem. Direct residential facility functions, provide schedules and delegate student responsibilities. Exercise the activity curriculum (COMPLETE) to foster leisure skills. Assist with after-school (recreational) planning/implementation.
Teach daily living skills:Instruct students in areas related to independent living skills (hygiene, dressing, eating, toileting, and cleaning, cooking and financial management) in accordance with current curriculum; implement necessary modifications as appropriate. Improve student social competence through teaching appropriate interactions, self-concept, problem-solving, and personal/civic responsibility.
Transport special needs students (wheelchair, mobility-assisted) to dining area; ensure proper eating skills and social behavior during mealtimes through observation and hands-on instruction. This includes training for students with special needs such as plate guards, special utensils, and dietary concerns and restrictions. Return students to the dormitory; supervise them while they prepare for classroom activity. Personally escort special needs students to their classes/dorms.
Monitor academic progressCollaborate with school and professional services staff to develop written Individual Education Plans (IEP) to address student needs, goals, and objectives. Support education programs to advance student performance levels in academic skills; provide support to promote literacy skills; provide tutoring and interpreting services as appropriate.
Communication / ReportingInitiate and sustain on-going contact with parents, school and professional services staff to communicate student progress and needs; provide student skills and needs assessments, compile progress reports and provide behavioral documentation such as incident reports and office referral forms.
Handle student discipline, follow-upFollow student discipline procedures and the Student Life Level Program. Ensure the safety and protection of students by working with school counselors, reporting suspected abuse and attending student meetings. Exercise appropriate behavior management and crisis intervention techniques. Demonstrate appropriate social behaviors through role-modeling and consistent interaction with students.
Professional development / trainingParticipate in mandatory training and workshops. Acquire and maintain necessary certification (e.g., Child Abuse Reporting, CPR and First Aid, Nonviolent Crisis Intervention, Discipline and Behavior Management, etc.). Participate in scheduled team meetings.
