Hazardous Building Materials Professional

A well-established environmental and engineering consulting firm is seeking a Hazardous Building Materials (HBM) Professional to support and help grow its HBM practice in the New Haven, Connecticut area. This role is ideal for an individual with hands-on experience conducting hazardous materials surveys and abatement monitoring who is looking for long-term growth within a collaborative, fast-growing group.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assist with hazardous/regulated building materials inspections
  • Perform project monitoring during HBM abatement activities and collect clearance samples (no on-site lab analysis required)
  • Support indoor air quality (IAQ) and PCB assessments
  • Coordinate with project teams, laboratories, and contractors
  • Assist with scope development and technical report writing
  • Work periodic overtime and/or outside standard business hours as project schedules require
  • Report directly to the regional Hazardous Building Materials Practice Lead

Secondary Responsibilities May Include:

  • Cross-training in other environmental or engineering service lines
  • Supporting multidisciplinary project teams
  • Periodic travel within New England and New York to meet project demands
Qualifications

Education & Experience:

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Architecture, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, or a related field
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience performing hazardous building materials surveys and abatement/remediation monitoring
  • Direct experience with asbestos, lead-based paint, and PCB projects is required
  • Solid understanding of Connecticut and Federal regulations related to asbestos, lead, and PCBs
  • (NY and RI regulatory experience is a plus)

Required Licenses/Certifications:

  • Connecticut DPH Asbestos Inspector
  • Connecticut DPH Asbestos Project Monitor
  • Connecticut DPH Lead Inspector

Preferred but not required:

  • Additional CT licenses (Lead Risk Assessor, Asbestos Designer)
  • Licensure in MA, NY, RI, or other neighboring states
Additional Skills & Requirements
  • Ability to read and interpret project specifications, drawings, and hazardous materials survey reports
  • Experience with asbestos, lead, PCB, and other building materials abatement projects
  • Proposal writing, cost estimating, report writing, and specification development experience preferred
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Valid driver’s license with reliable transportation to access job sites
  • Ability to balance field and office responsibilities
  • Comfortable working independently and as part of a team
  • Flexibility to work standard business hours and off-hours as needed

This is a Permanent position based out of New Haven, CT.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $65000.00 - $75000.00/yr.

Strong benefits package, fully paid health, 15 pto, 10 sick days, 2 bonuses and annual raises
