Harness Design Engineer

Pentangle Tech Services | P5 Group
Sunnyvale, CA

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Wiring Harness Design Engineer to lead the design, development, validation, and scaling of spider harnesses used to integrate autonomy compute systems, networking components, and advanced sensors across multiple vehicle platforms.

This is a hands-on, end-to-end role covering the full harness lifecycle — from concept and prototype development to validation (DVP/DVPR) and production-ready release. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in automotive electrical systems, harness design, and autonomy signal integration, and be capable of contributing immediately with minimal onboarding.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design and development of spider wiring harnesses for autonomous vehicle systems
  • Create and release 2D/3D harness drawings, schematics, and documentation
  • Define and manage harness architecture, routing, packaging, and integration within vehicle platforms
  • Support prototype builds, first-article development, and iterative design improvements
  • Plan and execute Design Verification Plans (DVP) and validation testing (DVPR)
  • Ensure compliance with automotive standards, quality, and safety requirements
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including mechanical, electrical, software, and manufacturing
  • Work on vehicle networking systems (CAN, LIN, Automotive Ethernet) and signal integrity
  • Support transition from prototype to production, including supplier interaction and manufacturing readiness
  • Troubleshoot and resolve integration and field issues related to harness systems

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
  • 5+ years of experience in automotive wiring harness design and development
  • Strong experience with harness design tools (e.g., CATIA, NX, Capital Harness, Zuken, VeSys, Creo)
  • Hands-on experience with DVP/DVPR, validation testing, and prototype builds
  • Solid understanding of vehicle electrical architecture (HV/LV systems)
  • Experience with vehicle communication protocols (CAN, LIN, Ethernet)
  • Proven ability to work across the full product lifecycle (concept to production)
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently with minimal supervision

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working on autonomous vehicles, ADAS systems, or sensor integration (LiDAR, radar, cameras)
  • Knowledge of ECU integration and high-speed data systems
  • Exposure to off-road, EV, or multi-platform vehicle development
  • Prior experience in scaling harness designs for production environments
