Position Summary:
The Hard Skills Instructor (HSI) is responsible for coordinating and delivering certified hard skills training to participants incarcerated at Rikers Island. This includes curriculum development, facilitation of OSHA/Flaggers and other industry-recognized certifications, and collaboration with jail-based staff and employment services. The instructor must be dynamic, engaging, and results-oriented, with a strong command of subject matter and the ability to motivate participants.
Effective Engagement & Individualized Services
- Provide Training Delivery & Curriculum Development to participants enrolled in the program.
- Facilitate certified hard skills training, including OSHA/Flaggers, building maintenance, construction, and CPR.
- Develop and maintain training curriculum and materials using textbooks, handouts, workbooks, and web-based resources.
- Deliver engaging and dynamic instruction to incarcerated participants at Rikers Island.
- Facilitate groups to support completion of OSHA-recognized certifications.
- Facilitate Makin It Work curriculum to participants inside Rikers Island.
- Consult the Transition Specialist and the Employment Specialists staff to align the curriculum with training needs.
- Develop relationships with DOC staff for instruction coordination.
Data and Performance Management
- Ensure 90% of caseload achieves ≥ 90% of KPI Contract Requirements.
- Analyze caseload performance minimum of 2X/month, in partnership with the supervisor to identify strengths, challenges, gaps, and improvement needs.
- Monitor, discuss, and track improvement needs a minimum of 1X/month in partnership with the supervisor and co-develop an action plan or performance improvement plan (PIP) accordingly.
- As directed by and in partnership with the supervisor, review, discuss, and address the needs of the action plan or PIP with 100% accuracy, including actions, follow-ups, owners, and outcomes.
You're a Great Fit For this Role If:
- You have a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution, preferred.
- You bring a minimum of 2 years of experience in career services, case management, workforce development, or social services OR in related fields, such as education, healthcare administration, retail or hospitality management, or human resources.
- You are a Credentialed Instructor to provide OSHA-certified training, Flaggers, and/or CPR to participants.
- You can pass the required security clearance with the NYC Department of Corrections.
