Sr. Director EHSS (Programs) 

The Sr. Director Environmental, Health, Safety and Security (EHSS) is responsible for developing and managing EHSS programs in support of the business strategy. Focus is on managing risks and maintaining full compliance by identifying, evaluating and controlling hazards with creative and sustainable programs. This role provides general support to the overall development of the EHSS Management System at Unifi. 

Travel may be required for this role.  

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Partners with operations, compliance and safety teams to develop and implement the tools, programs, procedures, requirements, and processes to initiate and maintain a company-wide safety management system that aligns with unifi, airline customer, general industry, and regulatory expectations. 

  • Maintain Unifi’s International Air Transport Association (IATA) ISAGO certification for ground service providers.  

  • Verifies that all company locations are operating in a manner compliant with all internal requirements and external requirements/regulations through implementation and management of a formal unifi safety quality assurance audit program 

  • Leads, develops and communicates safety programs and initiatives which align with the business strategy and drives changes aligned with the company’s long-term strategic business plan 

  • Measures and verifies current effectiveness of requirements set by safety procedures, processes, and audits in driving reduction of safety events at stations, and makes necessary changes on an ongoing basis if a gap is identified 

  • Manages processes and activities which drive compliance with applicable regulations and company policies 

  • Develops and/or enhances internal safety management tools and processes such as Hazard/Concern Reporting and Tracking System, Safety Observations, Action Tracking System, Pre-Use Analysis, Job Safety Analysis, Incident Investigation Toolkit, and Compliance programs to control or eliminate hazards. 

  • Monitors rule-making and regulatory activities and ensures all appropriate parties are aware and prepared for impending or changing regulations that may have an impact on their operations 

  • Develops and updates company policies, processes and procedures by maintaining knowledge of regulations to ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations and best practices 

  • Communicates with and fosters a positive relationship with regulatory agencies. 

  • Provides support as needed by phone, email and text to ensure accurate and timely incident reporting and recordkeeping. 

  • Collects, analyzes and maintains data for tracking and trending safety risks/exposures 

  • Facilitates the completion of required safety and compliance audits designed to identify deficiencies and root causes with appropriate corrective actions to measure the success of unifi safety programs and identify and predict potential high-risk areas of the operation 

  • Performs station visits in support of Unifi and our customers to evaluate safety performance and promote safety awareness and coaching, including collecting feedback from station and regional leaders on how to make safety programs/processes/requirements more effective 

  • Develops and communicates impactful corrective actions that can be shared and implemented across the organization to drive continuous company-wide improvement 

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS/ABILITIES  

Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Health and Safety, Engineering, Aviation Safety or related qualitative field is required.  Three (3) to Six (6) years of experience in the field of environmental health and safety program management and regulations or working with such programs as an operational leader.   

  • Ability to formulate and execute comprehensive safety strategies/programs that will ensure consistency throughout the Company while ensuring a safe work environment and driving Workers’ Compensation costs down 

  • Proven ability to solve complex problems and influence people across all functional areas. 

  • Outstanding facilitator and communicator; lead innovation by teaching, consensus-building, and project execution. 

  • Solid decision-maker with excellent analytical skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities and be self-starting on tasks within area of expertise. 

  • Strong technical and business writing skills 

  • Proficient and experienced user of Office 365 apps/programs (Word, Power Point, Sharepoint, Sway), including managing and manipulating data using Excel 

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS/ABILITIES  

  • Experience in airline/aviation-specific operations with creating, implementing, and improving region/division/company-wide safety programs and compliance 

  • Experience with creating data visualization and analysis using software (Power BI / Tableau / Spotfire) 

  • Experience with industry-standard environment, health, and safety digital safety management systems (Gensuite) 

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT  

While performing the duties of this job the employee works indoors in a semi-private office, while performing multiple tasks under tight time constraints. During field visits the employee may be exposed to outside weather conditions including rain, snow, sun and extreme cold and extreme heat and moving mechanical parts such as propellers and jet fans and is exposed to fumes or airborne particles. May work various hours, nights, weekends and holidays. Up to 50% travel may be required.
