Job Summary
The Grocery Manager is responsible for the overall operation and performance of the Grocery Department. This role ensures outstanding customer service, strong merchandising execution, accurate inventory management, associate development, and compliance with company policies while driving sales, productivity, and profitability.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Management
- Lead, coach, train, and develop Grocery Department associates and supervisors.
- Create effective schedules to meet business needs, workload, and productivity goals.
- Provide ongoing performance feedback and promote accountability and engagement.
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and safety‑focused work environment.
Operations & Merchandising
- Oversee ordering, receiving, stocking, rotation, and merchandising of grocery products.
- Ensure shelves, displays, endcaps, and promotional areas are fully stocked, faced, and organized.
- Execute planograms, resets, seasonal programs, and merchandising initiatives.
- Maintain accurate pricing, signage, and promotional execution.
Inventory, Shrink & Financial Performance
- Manage inventory levels to support sales while minimizing shrink, damages, and out‑of‑stocks.
- Analyze sales, shrink, and performance reports to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Control labor hours and department expenses within established targets.
Customer Service
- Deliver an exceptional customer experience through strong department standards and service.
- Address customer concerns promptly and professionally.
- Ensure product assortment meets customer demand and store needs.
Safety, Compliance & Loss Prevention
- Ensure adherence to company policies, safety procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain clean, organized, and safe department conditions.
- Support loss prevention initiatives and shrink reduction strategies.
Collaboration & Store Support
- Partner with Store Leadership, Night Crew, and department leaders to support total store operations.
- Support store initiatives, inventories, holidays, and special projects.
- Serve as a key operational leader within the store.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Knowledge of grocery operations, merchandising, and inventory management.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced retail environment.
- Proficient in retail systems, reporting tools, and inventory technology.
- Ability to motivate teams and drive accountability and results.
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Previous retail grocery management or department leadership experience preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, and lift up to 50 pounds regularly.
- Ability to work flexible schedules, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
