Position Summary The Grocery Manager is responsible for leading all aspects of the grocery department, including operations, merchandising, inventory control, labor management, and associate development. This role ensures the department meets sales, shrink, and service goals while maintaining a clean, organized, and customer‑ready environment.
Key Responsibilities Department Operations
- Oversee daily grocery department operations, including ordering, receiving, stocking, rotation, and merchandising
- Ensure shelves, displays, and promotional areas are fully stocked and properly presented
- Manage inventory levels to minimize out‑of‑stocks, shrink, and waste
- Monitor department performance and adjust operations to meet business goals
Leadership & Team Development
- Hire, train, schedule, and develop grocery associates
- Provide ongoing coaching, performance feedback, and corrective action as needed
- Establish clear expectations and promote accountability within the team
- Ensure adequate staffing to support department and store needs
Customer Service
- Deliver an excellent customer experience through strong department standards and service
- Address customer questions, concerns, and complaints promptly and professionally
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized department at all times
Standards, Safety & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with company policies, safety standards, and operational procedures
- Oversee proper product handling, rotation, and backroom organization
- Promote a safe working environment for associates and customers
Sales & Merchandising
- Execute planograms, price changes, and promotional programs
- Analyze sales trends to optimize product assortment and presentation
- Partner with store leadership to support overall store objectives
Qualifications - Previous grocery or retail management experience preferred
- Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment
- Experience with inventory management, merchandising, and labor planning
- Flexible availability, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Ability to lift, stock, stand for extended periods, and work in backroom environments
Working Conditions This position requires standing, walking, bending, and frequent lifting. The Grocery Manager works in both sales floor and backroom environments and must maintain schedule flexibility to meet business needs.
