Under the general direction of the ICT Director, the GIS Technician assists in maintaining and supporting the city’s Geographic Information System (GIS) applications and spatial data. This role focuses on data entry, basic map creation, and providing technical support for GIS tools. The GIS Technician will work closely with city staff to ensure accurate and accessible spatial data for daily operations.
Hiring Range $35.75-$38.00 Fully Salary Range $35.75-$51.85Geographic Information System (GIS):
Assist in updating and maintaining GIS spatial databases.
Perform routine data entry and quality checks on spatial data.
Provide first-level support for GIS-related help desk requests.
Serve as first-level support for the City’s asset/work management system.
Assist in troubleshooting basic hardware and software issues related to GIS.
Create basic maps, story maps and ArcGIS Online applications.
Participate in GIS training sessions as a learner and assist with simple user support.
Maintain documentation for GIS processes and procedures.
Strategy & Planning
Support GIS projects by preparing data and performing basic analysis under supervision.
Follow established policies and procedures to ensure GIS data integrity and security.
Acquisition & Deployment
Assist in acquiring and organizing spatial data from external sources.
Conduct basic research on GIS tools and techniques as directed.
Staff Interaction
Provide courteous and helpful assistance to staff using GIS applications.
Assist in preparing map-oriented exhibits for presentations or reports.
Equipment and Systems
Help with installation and configuration of GIS-related software and peripherals as needed.
GIS Records
Maintain accurate records of data updates and corrections.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Associates degree in GIS, geography, or related field.
GIS internship experience
Basic experience with Windows desktop systems and Microsoft Office.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in GIS, geography or related field.
One or more years of professional experience with GIS software for an organization.
ESRI or other GIS technical certificate.
Experience with a municipal infrastructure asset/work management solution.
