Job Title: Precast Concrete Laborer
Job Description

This role supports the production of large structural and architectural precast concrete forms used in projects such as parking garages, grocery stores, and apartment buildings. You will work in a fast-paced, industrial plant environment, building and preparing steel and wooden molds, assisting with concrete placement and finishing, and performing general labor tasks that keep production running efficiently.

Responsibilities

  • Build and assist in building steel and wooden frames (molds) for precast concrete based on blueprints and piece drawings.
  • Use hand tools and power tools to help carpenters construct wooden forms and install framing components prior to concrete pouring.
  • Retrieve and move materials such as mesh sheets (often a two-person lift around 100 pounds), rebar, wires, nuts, and bolts to the appropriate stations for form building.
  • Set up equipment used for casting bands and finishes according to specifications.
  • Lay out beds with proper dimensions for each piece drawing and for the overall bed length, ensuring accuracy and alignment.
  • Set up beds according to specifications on piece drawings, including all form side reveals and bottom steel or plates.
  • Ensure proper placement of concrete on the bed to match piece drawings and required finishes.
  • Monitor bed heat using a computer system and adjust as directed to meet production requirements.
  • Assist with concrete pours within the plant and smooth out concrete using brooms, levels, screeds, and laser screeds.
  • Wash exposed aggregate panels and full beds to achieve the specified finish.
  • Prepare wooden and steel forms for the next pour by cleaning off debris and ensuring surfaces are ready for reuse.
  • Perform grinding tasks, including grinding ends of panels and cleaning pallets or beds as needed.
  • Scrape and clean side forms and chamfers and apply oil to forms to ensure proper release of concrete.
  • Support general plant operations, including sweeping, cleaning work areas, and helping get the plant ready for ongoing and increased production.
  • Follow all safety guidelines, use required tools and equipment correctly, and communicate any issues or defects to supervisors promptly.
  • Work collaboratively with team members to complete daily production goals and adapt to changing priorities or schedules.
Essential Skills
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and comfort using hand tools and power tools in a construction or industrial setting.
  • Previous labor experience in a physically demanding environment.
  • Ability to accurately read and use a tape measure.
  • Capability to perform repetitive physical tasks, including lifting, carrying, bending, and standing for extended periods.
  • Willingness and ability to work flexible hours, understanding that shift end times may vary based on production needs.
  • Reliable transportation to and from the worksite.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, including working from blueprints and piece drawings when directed.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Professional construction experience in areas such as carpentry, concrete work, demolition, or framing.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints with minimal guidance.
  • Experience working with concrete, precast concrete, or similar materials.
  • Familiarity with industrial or manufacturing environments and production processes.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, high-quality work.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team in a high-activity production environment.
Why Work Here?

You will join a production team that plays a critical role in creating large-scale structural components used in a wide variety of building projects. The work offers steady hours with opportunities for overtime and the chance to build valuable skills in precast concrete, blueprint interpretation, and industrial construction techniques. You will gain hands-on experience with specialized equipment such as laser screeds and casting systems while working alongside experienced tradespeople who can support your growth in the construction and manufacturing fields.

Work Environment

This position is based in an indoor precast concrete plant that operates Monday through Friday, with occasional Saturdays as production requires. Typical shifts start between 4:00 and 6:00 a.m. and end between 2:00 and 4:00 p.m., with total weekly hours generally ranging from 40 to 46, depending on workload and project schedules. The facility does not have heating or air conditioning, so conditions can be very cold in the winter and hot in the summer, and the environment is dusty and dirty due to concrete production and general industrial activity. You will work around heavy equipment, concrete trucks, and specialized tools such as screeds and laser screeds, and you should expect a physically demanding role that requires appropriate work attire suitable for a rugged, construction-style plant setting.
