Job Title: General Laborer

Job Description

This role supports food production operations in two facilities that prepare soups, broths, seasonings, and packaged pet food. You will perform a variety of general labor tasks, including assisting cooks, packing cases, loading and unloading materials, and providing utility support across different areas of the production line. The position is physically active and requires regular lifting, movement around the facility, and adherence to food safety and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).

Responsibilities

  • Assist cooks in preparing and producing soups, broths, seasonings, and dog food, following established procedures and safety standards.
  • Work in a hot production environment while maintaining focus on quality and safety.
  • Lift and carry up to 50 pounds as needed to support cooking and production activities.
  • Work closely with cooks to mix, batch, and handle ingredients used in food and pet food production.
  • Load and unload trucks with raw materials, packaging, and finished products.
  • Bring raw materials and ingredients to assistant cooks to ensure continuous production flow.
  • Lift and move materials weighing 30 pounds or more on a frequent basis.
  • Move racks of packaged soups and other finished products throughout the facility for staging, storage, or shipment.
  • Perform case packing tasks, including sorting, packing, and preparing products for shipment.
  • Support general labor duties on the production line, including sorting, organizing, and maintaining a clean work area.
  • Serve as a utility or “floater” team member who can step into assistant cook, case packer, loader/unloader, and general labor tasks as needed.
  • Follow all GMP, food safety, and facility hygiene requirements, including proper use of provided protective clothing and equipment.
  • Contribute to a safe work environment by following safety guidelines and reporting any hazards or issues to supervision.

Essential Skills

  • Ability to perform physically demanding work, including lifting 30–50 pounds frequently throughout the shift.
  • Experience or comfort working in a hot, fast-paced production or warehouse environment.
  • Basic food production or food preparation experience, such as handling ingredients, mixing, or batching.
  • Ability to work on a production line performing repetitive tasks such as sorting, packing, and loading.
  • Reliability and punctuality to support scheduled first or second shift operations and overtime as needed.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and adhere to safety and GMP procedures.
  • Willingness to work in multiple roles, including assistant cook, case packer, loader/unloader, and utility as required.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Prior experience in food prep, food production, or food packaging environments.
  • Experience in general labor roles such as loader, utility worker, packer, or production line associate.
  • Experience with mixing and batching ingredients in a manufacturing or kitchen setting.
  • Familiarity with sorting, organizing, and staging materials in a production or warehouse facility.
  • Comfort working in a GMP-regulated environment with specific hygiene and attire requirements.

Work Environment

The work takes place in a food production facility that is not climate controlled, with temperatures around 75 degrees and some areas that can be hot due to cooking operations. This is a GMP environment where you must follow strict hygiene and safety standards and wear provided attire such as a smock, hairnet, and safety glasses. The role operates on two primary shifts: first shift from 5:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and second shift from 3:30 p.m. to 2:00 a.m., with approximately 10 hours of overtime currently available. Weekend work is generally avoided and, when needed, is offered on a voluntary basis. The facility is production-focused, with active loading, unloading, moving racks of packaged soups, and handling raw materials and finished goods throughout the day. Pay is $17hr

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $15.00 - $19.00/hr.
