General Laborer

Job Title: General Laborer (2nd & 3rd shift)

Job Description

The General Laborer supports high-speed corrugated manufacturing operations by assisting machine operators, handling materials and scrap, and maintaining a clean and safe production area. This role works in a fast-paced environment, requires consistent attention to detail and quality, and involves physical tasks such as lifting, walking, and standing throughout the shift.

Responsibilities

• Aid and assist machine operators by bringing materials to production equipment in a timely and accurate manner.
• Work with a strong sense of urgency in a fast-paced manufacturing environment while always following safety procedures.
• Limit scrap waste by monitoring materials, collecting scrap, and delivering full scrap loads to the appropriate department.
• Accurately tag scrap materials for proper waste reporting and documentation.
• Break down cardboard and pick up scrap from the production floor to keep work areas organized and safe.
• Sweep floors, take out garbage, and perform minor janitorial tasks to maintain a clean and orderly facility.
• Support high-speed packaging operations by helping to package and label products as needed.
• Use a measuring tape and ruler to take accurate measurements and apply basic shop math when required.
• Lift and move materials weighing up to 60 pounds throughout the shift.
• Maintain reliable attendance and follow assigned work schedules and overtime requirements.
• Collaborate with team members and communicate effectively with machine operators and other production staff.
• Adhere to all safety requirements, including wearing required personal protective equipment at all times on the production floor.

Essential Skills

• At least 1 year of experience in a manufacturing or warehouse environment.
• Ability to work effectively in a high-speed packaging or production environment.
• Ability to accurately read and use a measuring tape and ruler.
• Proficiency with basic shop math for measurements and simple calculations.
• Capability to lift up to 60 pounds repeatedly throughout the day.
• Demonstrated ability to work with a sense of urgency while maintaining attention to detail and product quality.
• Proven attendance record, verified through references.
• Strong work ethic and drive for results.
• Ability to work independently while also contributing positively to a team-focused environment.
• Comfort working on your feet and walking for most of the shift in a large facility.
• Willingness to wear required personal protective equipment, including steel-toe footwear, safety vest, safety glasses, ear protection, and hard hat as needed.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience in manufacturing, particularly in high-speed machining or corrugated/packaging environments, is highly transferable.
• Experience with inspection tasks in a production setting.
• Experience with machine setup, changeovers, or assisting with machine operation.
• Familiarity with reading basic blueprints or production specifications is a plus.
• Positive attitude with a team-first mindset.
• Ability to adapt to a growing facility and evolving production needs.
• Comfort working in a non-climate-controlled environment with warmer temperatures during summer months.

Work Environment

The role is based in a brand-new, state-of-the-art, approximately 550,000-square-foot corrugated manufacturing facility with 26 dock doors and over $30 million invested in modern technology and equipment. The facility includes two main work areas: a Converting Department and a Corrugating Department. The environment is not climate controlled due to the heat and pressure required for the corrugated manufacturing process, but it is well ventilated; temperatures can be warmer during hot summer months. Employees are on their feet and walking much of the day in this very spacious building. Personal protective equipment is mandatory on the production floor, including steel-toe footwear, safety vests, safety glasses, and ear protection; a hard hat is also required, particularly while construction is being finalized in certain areas. The site currently operates a first shift from 5:45 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, with 8-hour days and the expectation to move toward 10-hour shifts as production ramps up, allowing for approximately 50-hour workweeks with overtime. Additional shifts, including second and third shift, are planned as the facility continues to scale. The overall environment combines modern, high-speed production lines with a focus on safety, cleanliness, and continuous growth, supported by amenities such as an internal café in development.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Elgin, IL.

The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $21.00/hr.
