Warehouse: Sit-Down Forklift Driver

Job Description

The Warehouse Worker plays a key role in accurately selecting, preparing, and staging customer orders for shipment in a fast-paced distribution environment. This position involves frequent use of RF scanners and material-handling equipment to move, load, and unload products while maintaining high standards of safety, quality, and efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Use RF scanners to accurately select customer orders for shipping, ensuring the correct quantity and type of products are picked.
  • Operate material-handling equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, and hand trucks safely to move items from storage areas to appropriate staging areas.
  • Mark, label, and prepare all orders as required to ensure they are ready for shipment.
  • Verify that outbound shipments are accurate, properly documented, and free from damage before they leave the facility.
  • Assist with loading and unloading trucks, ensuring products are handled carefully and placed in the correct locations.
  • Support inventory control activities by handling, organizing, and tracking products as needed.
  • Read and interpret customer orders and related paperwork to ensure correct order fulfillment.
  • Use basic computer systems as needed to support order processing, shipping, and inventory tasks.
  • Collaborate with supervisors and team members in a positive, proactive manner to meet daily operational goals.
  • Perform various other duties and assignments as requested by management to support the overall functioning of the department and warehouse operations.

Essential Skills

  • Experience working in a fast-paced distribution or warehouse environment.
  • Ability to use RF scanners for order selection or a strong willingness to learn this technology.
  • Ability to safely maneuver and lift up to 50 lbs regularly and occasionally up to 75 lbs.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time and frequently stoop, kneel, or crouch.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as an effective team member.
  • Effective communication skills to interact with supervisors and coworkers.
  • Ability to read and understand customer orders and other written documentation.
  • Willingness and ability to work overtime and Saturdays during peak periods.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Forklift experience is a plus.
  • Prior experience with RF scanners is preferred but not required.
  • Basic computer skills are a plus.
  • Previous experience with material handling, order picking, loading, unloading, and shipping is beneficial.
  • Comfort working with inventory processes and product organization.
  • Proactive attitude with a willingness to assist supervisors and coworkers as needed.

Work Environment

This role is based in a standard warehouse environment with a large volume of product and active distribution operations. Work is performed on-site, primarily on concrete floors, with frequent standing, walking, lifting, and movement throughout the facility. The position involves regular use of RF scanners, forklifts, pallet jacks, hand trucks, and other material-handling equipment. The warehouse operates multiple shifts, including a first shift from Monday to Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., and a second shift from Monday to Friday, 2:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., with the potential for overtime and Saturday work during peak selling times. The environment is fast-paced and team-oriented, focused on safety, accuracy, and efficient order fulfillment, with a practical, task-appropriate dress code suitable for warehouse work.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Lake Zurich, IL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $17.50 - $27.36/hr.
