Hurlburt Field is located on the Florida Panhandle between Pensacola Beach, Destin and Eglin AFB. This area is known as the Emerald Coast and is a major tourist attraction for its breathtaking white sand beaches and emerald green waters. Home of the Air Commandos since 1961, Hurlburt Field today accommodates the 1st Special Operations Wing (1 SOW), Headquarters Air Force Special Operations Command (AFSOC) and a number of associated units. The 1st Special Operations Force Support Squadron (SOFSS) provides administrative control for approximately 700 military and civilian personnel in the squadron and provides commander's support, military personnel services and civilian personnel services for all units residing on Hurlburt Field. The squadron manages 77 base facilities and supports more than 59,000 active duty, reservists, civilians, families and retirees in the local community through a wide variety of activities and programs to include child care, before-and-after school youth programs, family daycare, dining facilities, lodging, outdoor recreation, golf course, library services, bowling, base honor guard, mortuary affairs, equipment rental, fitness centers, auto-hobby shop, education center and Airmen and Family Readiness Center. MajorDuties

  • Sets up food service counters, steam tables, dining room tables, and side service stands with hot and cold foods. Serves food cafeteria-style directly or serves tables family-style by placing dishes of food on tables and replenishing as necessary. Prepares tables and service stands by cleaning and setting up necessary condiments, linens, flatware, and other articles. Prepares fruits and vegetables for cooking and serving by washing, peeling, scraping and dicing. Cuts and shreds lettuce, slices tomatoes, cuts lemons, prepares butter chips, and opens cans. Makes beverages. Portions out food by placing uniform amounts in small serving dishes. Applies portion control methods by using scales and measuring devices to apportion individual items according to standardized recipes. Assembles, labels, and arranges complete recipe items for use by cooks. Cleans kitchen and dining area equipment. Washes dishes, pots, pans, coffee urns, glasses, and flatware. Operates mechanical dishwasher. Clears and cleans dining tables. Sweeps, mops and waxes floors. Disposes of food wastes and trash. Uses appropriate sanitation techniques when preparing formulas or tube feedings. Moves heavy garbage cans and assists in unloading supply trucks and storing heavy supplies. Conducts final checks of food items to ensure completeness, correct temperature, and to verify food items are appropriate for allergies and prescribed diet. Verifies food substitutes for children with allergies to menu items. Prepares alternative food items for identified dietary needs of patrons. Uses computer to record and retrieve menu, recipe, and inventory data and to produce printouts. Incumbent is responsible for independently completing assigned work after initial oral or written instructions when changes or new assignments are made. Uses judgment in recognizing work objectives and in planning and organizing those objectives. Refers questions on new work situations to supervisor. Supervisor spot checks to see that work is done on time and according to instructions. Performs other related duties as assigned. Child Development Program will provide 100% child care fee discount for all CYP direct care staff for the first child enrolled in a full-time or regular part-time DAF CDP. A 25% discount will apply for any additional children of direct care staff. Direct care staff must spend a minimum of 75% of their work schedule in the classroom including flex employees who average 15 hours a week.
