The City of Lake Oswego is seeking qualified candidates for the Fleet Technician position within the Motor Pool Division of the Public Works Department. Motor Pool is responsible for the maintenance and repair of City-owned fleet, which includes a wide variety of vehicles, along with small and large equipment.
Under the direction of the Assistant Public Works Director, this full-time position will be assigned to perform skilled mechanical work that ranges from routine tune ups to complex repairs on all types of City fleet. The selected individual will be expected to utilize computerized diagnostic tools and online programs to assist with maintenance tasks, as well as an electronic fleet work order systems to organize and maintain records. In addition, the Fleet Technician will be expected to provide internal customer service to all fleet users within the City organization.A typical way of obtaining the knowledge, skills and abilities outlined is one year of related experience or Associate’s Degree in automotive Fleet Technicians; or an equivalent combination of experience and training.
Candidates must possess the knowledge of safety practices and procedures related to full-service automotive and diesel/combustion engine maintenance and repair. Successful candidates will also possess the knowledge of and abilities to utilize the tools and diagnostic testing equipment used in the maintenance of gas and diesel engines. Must be able to interpret technical maintenance manuals, maintain accurate records and communicate effectively with internal and external customers.
Preference will be given to candidates with experience using diagnostic tools and/or experience in welding, fabrication and heavy equipment repair.
Special Requirements:
This position works primarily during routine daytime hours. However, responses to emergencies or construction schedules will require some nighttime, weekend, and holiday work activity.

Bilingual Pay:Employees who can speak and/or write a language listed in the top five (5) most common languages spoken in the Lake Oswego School District, may be eligible for three percent (3%) bilingual pay.
