In support of the Superintendent of Streets, Fleet and Fixed Operations and Fleet Manager conducting maintenance for all city equipment. Strong emphasis on preventative maintenance. Work will be required but not limited to light, medium, and heavy vehicles/equipment, buses and emergency vehicles. Responsibilities involving work orders and documentation are required. Work in other classifications will be assigned as necessary.
- Troubleshoots and inspects city equipment/vehicles for fleet maintenance requirements.
- Prepares work orders and documents work completed.
- Provides proper care for tools and equipment required for fleet maintenance.
- Performs repairs and upkeep on sedans, light, medium, and heavy duty trucks, construction equipment, buses, emergency vehicles, gas and diesel motors.
- Attends service schools and other training.
- Conducts work in a safe manner and adheres to all safety policies.
- Will be required to assist or substitute in other department responsibilities as required.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:- Must be able to work day or night hours with minimal notice.
- Must be able to work in outdoor and indoor environmental conditions from extreme heat, rain, snow, humidity, to extreme cold.
- Must be able to lift 50 - 100 pounds.
- Must be able to coordinate and accomplish service calls seven days a week.
- Must have no limitations that impair doing the responsibilities of the position with either left or right hands.
- Must be able to bend, twist, kneel, and squat for repair requirements.
- Must have no impairments from exposure to lubricants, exhaust, and other products.
- Must have not limitations that restrict working at heights above 12 feet.
- Must have no limitations on seat belt use.
- Must be able to stand, sit or walk continuously 6 – 8 hours per day.
Must have a valid Class B CDL (Commercial Drivers License) with air brake and passenger endorsements.
High School Diploma or GED required. Additional schooling in technical and/or undergraduate in fleet maintenance work is desirable.
Ability to demonstrate mechanical abilities and experience.
- Ability to read/write and follow instructions.
- Ability to write legibly for data collection and completion of reports.
- Ability to operate common computer software.
- Basic computer operating and navigation skills.
- Basic keyboarding skills.
- Ability to read and understand maintenance manuals.
- Knowledge of methods, materials and tools required for repair and preventative maintenance of all city equipment and vehicles.
- Knowledge on driving and operation procedures for sedans, trucks, heavy equipment, and buses.
- Knowledge of work order procedures and documentation of fleet maintenance.
- Knowledge of safety procedures involved with fleet maintenance.
- Knowledge of welding, torching, and fabricating procedures for the repair and maintenance of city equipment.
- Knowledge of lubrication and fluid changes on city equipment.
- Knowledge on operation of and procedures for snow plowing.
