Job Description

A leading medical robotics organization is seeking a Firmware Engineer to play a critical role in the design, development, and commercialization of next-generation robotic medical systems. This role will focus on architecting, implementing, and sustaining safety-critical embedded firmware within a regulated medical device environment. The ideal candidate brings deep embedded systems expertise, a strong sense of ownership, and proven experience guiding complex firmware from early development through clinical use and regulatory approval.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain embedded firmware for robotic medical devices, including real-time control, sensing, and actuation.
  • Lead firmware architecture decisions for safety-critical, real-time embedded systems.
  • Develop low-level drivers for peripherals such as motors, encoders, sensors, imaging components, and communication interfaces (e.g., SPI, I²C).
  • Implement and maintain firmware on modern microcontroller platforms (e.g., programmable system-on-chip or comparable architectures).
  • Collaborate closely with electrical, mechanical, systems, quality, and regulatory stakeholders throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Support design verification and validation (V&V) activities, including unit, integration, and system-level testing.
  • Contribute to risk management activities (e.g., hazard analysis and mitigation) with a focus on firmware-related controls.
  • Develop and maintain firmware documentation to support regulatory submissions, design history files (DHF), and traceability.
  • Participate in root cause analysis and corrective actions for firmware-related issues identified during testing or clinical use.

Essential Skills

  • 10+ years of professional firmware development experience.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
  • Extensive experience developing firmware in C/C++.
  • Proven experience working in a regulated environment, with a preference for medical devices.
  • Experience with RTOS-based systems.
  • Experience with SoC / pSoC system on chip architecture highly preferred
  • Solid understanding of real-time systems, interrupts, timers, memory management, and low-level hardware interaction.
  • Experience with QP/C real-time event framework.

Work Environment

The position is on-site in Sunrise, with flexibility for 2 days of remote workonce established. The work environment includes an office building equipped with a lab.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Sunrise, FL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $60.00 - $80.00/hr.
