Check Us Out!The Johnston-Grimes Metropolitan Fire District is currently accepting applications for full-time Firefighter/EMT and Firefighter/Paramedic (FF/PM preferred). Applicants must possess a valid Iowa driver's license. Minimum requirements are certification as an Iowa or National Firefighter I (Firefighter II preferred), Hazardous Materials Operations and Iowa Emergency Medical Technician – Basic certification or Paramedic certification.

To be considered for Steps 2 - 5 (Lateral Entry), applicants must provide proof of full-time experience in an agency comparable to the Johnston-Grimes Metropolitan Fire District for two/three years.

The Johnston-Grimes Metropolitan Fire District operates out of 3 stations with 3-5 personnel each on a 48/96-hour tour and responds to over 4200 runs per year.

Applicants are expected to possess a current (within 1 year of date of application) physical agility evaluation (PAE) and a written exam conducted by the Central Iowa Fire and EMS Testing Consortium. More information on the CIFETC written test and PAE can befound here.
Successful candidates will participate in an interview which will be conducted with Chief Officers and mid-level supervision to move forward in the process. Dates and times for interviews are TBD and will be held at 6373 Merle Hay Road, Johnston, 50131.
