Field Technician

This position requires 100% travel / having a territory throughout the Orange County, Los Angeles County, and San Bernadino County - you will be given a company car to travel.

A large water management company is seeking an experienced Senior Environmental Field Technician. We are expanding our team and looking for hardworking and capable individuals. Our technicians receive hands on practical experience and have a direct impact on our environmental projects. We specialize in a wide variety of consulting, testing, monitoring, and maintenance in the solid waste field. Our project sites offer a unique working environment that allows our technicians to gain experience both on an operational and a regulatory level. The pay scale for this position is $28-$40 an hour, based on qualifications and experience.

Your Role:

• Lead and oversee field operations related to the monitoring, maintenance, and optimization of Gas Collection & Control Systems (GCCS) across multiple project sites
• Supervise and mentor junior field technicians, providing training, guidance, and performance feedback to ensure high-quality work and safety compliance
• Manage environmental field projects from planning through execution, ensuring regulatory deadlines, quality standards, and client expectations are met
• Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, regulators, and internal stakeholders, providing technical updates, progress reports, and issue resolution
• Conduct advanced troubleshooting and root cause analysis of complex GCCS and landfill gas (LFG) system issues, implementing corrective actions as needed
• Oversee the operation and maintenance of liquids extraction systems and ensure accurate monitoring and documentation of LFG and environmental data
• Ensure compliance with all applicable environmental regulations, health and safety standards, and company policies
• Walk long distances, up and down steeply sloped landfills and outdoor terrain
• Work in extreme (hot and cold) weather conditions safely
• Lift a minimum of 50 pounds on a non-consistent basis

Qualifications:

• 5+ years of relevant experience in environmental fieldwork, landfill gas systems, or related technician roles
• Proven experience in supervising staff and managing projects, including scheduling and client communication
• Strong understanding of environmental regulations and landfill gas system operations
• Proficiency in troubleshooting mechanical and electrical systems such as pumps, blowers, and other instrumentation
• Skilled in the use of environmental monitoring equipment such as flame-ionization detectors, photo-ionization detectors, explosive gas detectors, water level detectors, PH/temperature/conductivity meters, LFG analyzers (GEM/Envision)
• Light equipment operation experience; HDPE pipe fusion experience is a plus
• Ability to interpret and analyze environmental data, and utilize software tools (e.g., Excel, databases) for data management
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to draft professional reports and memos
• Complete the OSHA HAZWOPER, 40-hour, environmental health and safety class, and annual 8-hour refresher classes
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record and willingness to travel to field sites
• Pass a company paid, baseline health physical and drug screening, as required
• A.S. or B.S. Degree in environmental, or other natural science (geology, biology, ecology etc.) is preferred
• Proficient in the use of a PC, specifically Microsoft Office suite of products (Word, Excel, and Outlook)

Compensation:

$25 to $40/hour
