Position Overview
The Field Electrician / I&E Technician plays a critical role in supporting day-to-day oil and gas production operations by installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting electrical and instrumentation systems. This hands-on position works directly at well sites, tank batteries, and production facilities to ensure electrical, control, and automation systems operate safely, efficiently, and reliably.
The ideal candidate has a strong background in oilfield electrical systems, three-phase power, and production equipment, along with a strong commitment to safety, quality workmanship, and field reliability.
Core Responsibilities
- Install, maintain, and repair electrical systems across oil and gas production facilities
- Troubleshoot electrical issues on pump jacks, motors, VFDs, compressors, and related production equipment
- Perform PLC troubleshooting and basic diagnostics
- Program, maintain, and troubleshoot Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs)
- Maintain and troubleshoot Motor Control Centers (MCCs)
- Support artificial lift electrical systems
- Calibrate field instrumentation and perform loop checks
- Maintain and troubleshoot SCADA communication systems and automation equipment
- Install and maintain control panels, power distribution systems, and field wiring
- Perform electrical maintenance on tank batteries, separators, heaters, and LACT units
- Troubleshoot electrical systems in hazardous locations (Class I, Div. 1 & Div. 2)
- Diagnose issues using multimeters, meggers, and other electrical diagnostic tools
- Assist with new well hookups and facility construction projects
- Follow all company safety policies and ensure compliance with industry and regulatory standards
- Accurately document maintenance activities, repairs, and system updates
Qualifications
Required
- 3+ years of electrical experience in oil & gas or industrial environments
- Master Electrician license
- Strong understanding of AC/DC electrical systems and three-phase power
- Proven ability to troubleshoot motors, VFDs, and electrical control systems
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and wiring diagrams
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to field locations
Preferred
- Prior I&E Technician experience
- Experience with PLCs, SCADA, or oilfield automation systems
- Electrical license or industry-recognized certification
- Experience working on well sites and tank batteries
