Faculty – Associate Degree Nursing

An instructor/faculty member in the Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) Program is directly responsible and accountable for ensuring the fulfillment of educational goals and objectives of the ADN Program, and ensuring program compliance with the Texas Board of Nursing. These responsibilities require leadership in both academic and workforce areas and include meeting student retention goals; participating in educational planning; evaluating student performance; motivating and advising students; and generating program reports as needed. The individual that serves as an Instructor in the ADN Program is a full-time or part-time faculty member.

Qualifications:

• A Master’s degree in Nursing is required to teach full time in the Associate Degree Nursing Program.
• Maintain an unrestricted RN license in Texas or a compact state.
• Maintain current BLS certification.

• Excellent oral and written communications skills.
• Willing and able to teach day or evening classes at a number of sites around the city.
• Excellent knowledge and skill in a variety of computer usage and software required, including Microsoft Office programs.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse professional, community, and student population.
• Possess good organizational and planning skills.
• Demonstrate sensitivity to students with diverse academic, socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds and students with disabilities.
• Demonstrated ability to inspire and motivate students in a learning-centered environment.
• Self-disciplined and able to effectively manage others.
• An innovative, problem-solving thinker.
• Demonstrated potential for leadership.
• Able to work with various types of audiovisual equipment and software.
• Working knowledge of maintaining student records and dealing with sensitive information.

• Actively employed in nursing for the past three years.
• Prefer experience in teaching at the community college level.

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

• Assist in curriculum development and instructional advancement in the field of Nursing
• Assess the instructional needs of students in the program and help coordinate the development of a plan to address these needs.
• Serve as a faculty advisor for students, providing academic guidance and counseling.
• Teach courses as assigned; determined by need and/or expertise.
• Assist in the annual core curriculum evaluations of the program, assessment of institutional effectiveness and preparation of reports.
• Participate in the development, implementation, and enforcement of standards/policies of the Health Sciences Division.
• Coordinate departmental textbook orders.
• Serve on institutional committees, screening committees for faculty positions as assigned by the College President, Vice President of Instruction or the Dean of Health Sciences.
• Maintain quality assurance to remain compliant with all required agencies.
• Obtain qualified preceptors at each clinical facility and supervise preceptors and students in various off campus clinical facilities.
• Participate in student recruitment and marketing for the College.
• Maintain overload hours if required.
• Assist in the hiring and recruitment of new faculty across the College.

Depending on experience and leadership ability, may be required to coordinate a course(s) where multiple instructors teach the same course.

Commensurate within the Texarkana College pay scale for position.
