This role ensures that buildings, grounds, equipment, and infrastructure remain safe, functional, and fully compliant with state and federal standards.
You will oversee multi-site maintenance operations, supervise Maintenance Foremen and skilled trades staff, coordinate major repair and construction projects, and manage preventive maintenance and equipment systems. The position also works closely with contractors, architects, project managers, and state agencies on Capital Outlay planning, contract development, and project oversight, while ensuring strict adherence to regulatory requirements.
This role is ideal for a highly organized, technically knowledgeable leader who excels in planning, problem-solving, and operational oversight—supporting the safety, efficiency, and long-term sustainability of OJJ facilities.
Five years of experience in the building construction trade or building maintenance; or in road or bridge construction or maintenance; ORCompletion of a two-year training program in general building construction, construction technology, or engineering plus three years of experience in the building construction trade or building maintenance; or in road or bridge construction or maintenance; OREighteen semester hours in a construction field or engineering plus two years of experience in the building construction trade or building maintenance; or in road or bridge construction or maintenance.The official job specifications for this role, as defined by the State Civil Service, can be found here.
Job Duties:Lead and oversee all maintenance, construction, repair, and plant operations (generators, boilers, buildings, grounds) for OJJ facilities in the northern region.
Supervise Maintenance Foremen and skilled trades staff; assign work, set expectations, train employees, and conduct performance evaluations.
Manage preventive maintenance, equipment systems, and multi-site project coordination, including biweekly project reviews and 24/7 emergency response.
Collaborate with contractors, architects, project managers, and state agencies on major repairs, Capital Outlay planning, contracts, and scopes of work.
Ensure compliance with OSHA, ORM, Facility Planning & Control, State Procurement, DEQ, LDH, State Fire Marshal, LPAA, and other regulatory entities.
Conduct quality assurance reviews across sites; develop findings, recommendations, and corrective action plans.
Oversee work-order management and preventive maintenance tracking through the Facility Wizard WORKORDRAMA system.
