Position Overview

A well-established industrial manufacturer is seeking a Facilities Engineer to oversee the performance, maintenance, and improvement of building systems, utilities, and environmental compliance across a manufacturing campus.

This role offers a structured career path with the opportunity to grow into Facilities Manager and eventually Director of Facilities & Environmental Services as the organization continues to expand operations and modernize infrastructure.

The Facilities Engineer will play a key role in ensuring reliable plant operations, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement of facility systems supporting production.

Key Responsibilities

Facilities & Infrastructure Management

  • Maintain and improve building infrastructure, utilities, and facility systems supporting manufacturing operations.
  • Oversee maintenance and reliability of HVAC, compressed air, electrical systems, alarm systems, and building controls.
  • Support installation and commissioning of new equipment and facility upgrades to ensure compliance with company standards and tolerances.
  • Monitor facility performance and implement preventive maintenance strategies to reduce downtime.

Environmental & Regulatory Compliance

  • Assist in ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal environmental regulations.
  • Support programs related to air quality, wastewater, hazardous waste handling, and environmental reporting.
  • Participate in environmental inspections and coordinate with regulatory agencies when required.
  • Work with internal teams to reduce environmental impact and improve workplace safety.

Contractor & Project Management

  • Coordinate and supervise outside contractors and service providers performing facility-related work.
  • Ensure vendors follow safety standards and operational procedures.
  • Assist with facility improvement projects including capital upgrades, equipment installation, and plant expansions.

Safety & Emergency Response

  • Support safety initiatives and environmental programs across the facility.
  • Serve as a technical resource to internal safety teams and emergency response groups.
  • Participate in programs related to chemical safety, respiratory protection, hearing conservation, and workplace environmental standards.

Continuous Improvement

  • Identify opportunities to improve facility reliability, energy efficiency, and operating costs.
  • Assist in developing long-term facility infrastructure strategies aligned with operational growth.
  • Maintain awareness of emerging technologies and best practices in facilities engineering.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Facilities Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or related field preferred
  • Associate degree with significant facilities or industrial maintenance experience will also be considered

Experience

  • 3–7+ years of experience in manufacturing facilities engineering, plant engineering, or industrial maintenance leadership
  • Experience supporting manufacturing environments preferred (metal, machining, industrial equipment, or heavy manufacturing)

Technical Skills

Strong understanding of:

  • Building and utility systems (HVAC, electrical, compressed air, alarms)
  • Environmental compliance programs
  • Contractor coordination and project management
  • Industrial safety practices
  • Regulatory compliance and reporting

Soft Skills

  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting ability
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with operations, maintenance, and engineering teams
  • Excellent communication with vendors, contractors, and internal stakeholders
