Coordinates,maintainsand administers multi-facility Safety and Emergency Management Plans which will ensure an environment free of hazards for visitors,patientsand employees, thus reducing the risk for human injury.This involves working closely with local,stateand federal stakeholders within and outside theMercyOneCentral Iowa system.This position coordinates all education/training related to life safety and emergency preparedness andmaintainsrecords for regulatory agencies asrequired.
Essential Key Job Responsibilities
Designated Safety and Emergency Management Officer forMercyOneDes Moines Medical Center andMercyOneWest Des Moines Medical Center and satellite buildings. Assists affiliate facilities, satellites and clinics with safety and emergency management compliance.
Coordinates efforts among staff throughout the facilities toensure compliancewithall local, state and federal regulatory agencies i.e.:The Joint Commission,Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services(CMS),Environmental Protection Agency, and National Fire Protection Association,andOccupation Safety and HealthAssociation.
Maintains and organizesalldocumentationincludingreports,work orders, communications and all regulatorydocuments and filespertaining to Safetyand EmergencyManagementto ensure a safe facility.
Acts as the Chairperson for the Safety Committee and Emergency Preparedness Committee. Designated Liaison Officer under the Hospital Incident Command System (HICS) if activated for emergency or planned events.
Implements safety programs and conducts and updates education and general safety in-services. Plans, coordinates, conducts and evaluates exercises to ensure hospital preparedness to planned or unplanned incidents.
Coordinates and participates in Zurich Insurance facilities surveys and in the CHI annual insurance survey with Risk Management staff.
Monitors for trends and implements risk reduction strategies where possible.
Assists in preparing The Joint Commission documents including theeSOC(Statement of Conditions), plans for improvement and inter cycle monitoring reports. Member of The Joint CommissionCoreTeam and reports on activities related to theEnvironment ofCare.
Investigates all environmental concerns, coordinates environmental testing, maintains all test results and documents any follow-up actions in coordination with the Infection Prevention Department.
Attends construction project meetings to ensure completion of Interim Life Safety assessments, Pre-construction Risk assessments, Infection Control Risk Assessments and maintains documentation of all measures taken to maintain safety in the facility during construction of other periods of non-compliance with building standards.
Coordinates the planning to receive Federal and State mutual aid health assets. Serves asMercyOneCentral Iowa National Disaster Medical System (NDMS) representative.
Serves as a member of the Central Iowa Health Care Coalition.
Responsible for Hazardous Materials program and assist with spills, disposal of hazardous waste and staff training in this area.
Provide education to Licensed Independent Practitioners within the organization(s) to enhance emergency preparedness and safety understanding.
Other duties as assigned by management.

Bachelor’s degree required in related field

Required Minimum Knowledge,Skillsand Abilities
Three years safety or other related experience required.
Minimum of one year of work-relatedskill, knowledge, or experience in Emergency/Disaster Managementrequired.
Knowledge of Regional,Stateand Federal Emergency Response Plans.
Experience in complexprojectand program management,and ingrant finance management.
Hazardous Materials Operation level preferred or within 1 year of employment.
Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter abuse trainingfor child and dependent adult abusewithin three (3) months of hire.
PREFERREDQualifications
Certified Health Facilities Manager (CHFM) designation from the American Society for Healthcare Engineering(ASHE) preferred.
Certified in Incident Command 100, 200, 700 and 800 levels preferred.
Experience with personal protective equipment (PPE) and decontamination preferred.
Experience in public speakingpreferred.
