Job Title: Fabricator

Job Description

The Fabricator sets up and operates a variety of precision metalworking machinery to produce high-quality components that meet engineering specifications. This role performs mechanical assembly, programs and adjusts CNC equipment, and conducts routine preventive maintenance while maintaining strict quality and safety standards. The position offers 1st shift (6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, with every other Saturday mandatory) and 2nd shift (2:15 p.m. to 10:45 p.m., with the first shift of the week starting Monday night and a 10% shift differential).

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate various types of fabrication machinery, including saws, lasers, press brakes, tube lasers, shears, automated bend cells, mills, lathes, and CNC machines.
  • Program CNC machines to execute required functions using G-code and related controls, including Fanuc and multi-axis (3-axis and 5-axis) equipment.
  • Perform CNC set-ups and change-overs to support different jobs, parts, and production runs.
  • Read and interpret mechanical drawings, blueprints, and GD&T symbols to ensure parts meet engineering specifications.
  • Ensure product quality by inspecting parts and assemblies to confirm compliance with engineering and quality standards.
  • Use precision measurement tools such as micrometers, calipers, depth gauges, and other calibration equipment to verify dimensions and tolerances.
  • Perform mechanical assembly tasks according to training and work instructions.
  • Troubleshoot basic equipment issues and part configuration problems with minimal assistance to maintain production quality and efficiency.
  • Flex between one to three different types of machinery, operating on trained equipment as production needs require.
  • Operate hand tools and shop equipment safely and effectively during fabrication and assembly processes.
  • Complete preventive maintenance tasks on assigned machines to maximize uptime and extend equipment life.
  • Perform quality inspection and documentation, including basic data entry and printing of required documents.
  • Use a tape measure accurately within 1/16 inch and convert decimals to fractions and fractions to decimals during layout and inspection.
  • Follow all safety procedures, including the safe use of forklifts and overhead cranes when certified by the company.
  • Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors to coordinate work, resolve issues, and maintain smooth workflow.
  • Successfully complete the 60-day probationary period by demonstrating consistent performance, reliability, and adherence to company standards.

Essential Skills

  • Ability to operate one to three different types of fabrication machinery, such as saws, lasers, press brakes, tube lasers, shears, mills, lathes, and CNC machines.
  • Experience in fabrication, fitting, metalworking, and tool and die making.
  • Proficiency in CNC machine operation, including CNC set-up, CNC change-over, and operation of vertical mills and lathes.
  • Ability to program and run CNC equipment, including multi-axis (3-axis and 5-axis) machines and Fanuc-controlled systems.
  • Skill in reading and interpreting mechanical drawings and blueprints, including GD&T, to produce parts to specification.
  • Ability to perform basic troubleshooting of equipment and part configurations to ensure quality compliance with minimal assistance.
  • Competence in using precision measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, depth gauges, and other inspection instruments.
  • Ability to read a tape measure accurately within 1/16 inch.
  • Basic math skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
  • Ability to convert decimals to fractions and fractions to decimals accurately.
  • Basic data entry and computer skills, including the ability to print documents.
  • Ability to operate hand tools safely and effectively.
  • Capability to obtain and use company-issued forklift and crane certifications if required.
  • Basic reading and writing skills in the English language.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to work effectively with team members and other internal partners.
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • At least 3 years of experience in precision metalworking machinery.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Post high school certification or degree in machining is preferred.
  • Understanding of mechanical drawings is preferred.
  • Familiarity with angles and the use of a protractor is preferred.
  • Experience in a machine shop environment with CNC mills, lathes, and other machining equipment.
  • Experience in inspection and quality control processes, including quality inspection of fabricated parts.
  • Comfort using CAD/CAM-driven outputs and working in an environment that employs CNC laser cutting, CNC press brakes, CNC turret punches, and robotic welding.
  • Demonstrated ability to pass math and measurement assessments.
  • Willingness to work overtime, including mandatory every-other-Saturday shifts, as production demands require.
  • Ability to frequently lift and move heavy materials and components in a manufacturing setting.

Work Environment

The role is based in a 750,000 square foot, state-of-the-art manufacturing facility dedicated to high-volume conveyance and small parcel distribution solutions. The environment uses advanced solid modeling design software and CAD/CAM processes, including CNC laser cutting, CNC press brakes, CNC turret punches, CNC sawing, CNC mills, and robotic welding. Work is performed primarily on the shop floor, where employees regularly stand, walk, crouch, kneel, and reach with hands and arms throughout the shift. The position requires frequent lifting and moving of materials and components, often up to 100 pounds, in a fast-paced production setting. Employees work on 1st shift (6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, with every other Saturday mandatory) or 2nd shift (2:15 p.m. to 10:45 p.m., with the first shift of the week starting Monday night and a 10% shift differential). Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $45700.00 - $62400.00/yr.
