MITRE’s Communications and External Affairs Office, part of the Mission Support Operations Sector, is seeking an experienced Executive Assistant. This role is responsible for the efficient and proactive management of all operational and administrative functions for the Communications and External Affairs Office, while upholding the highest professional standards. As part of a collaborative, enterprise-wide team that partners with organizations across MITRE, the Executive Assistant will regularly support complex calendar management, meetings, strategic events, and other activities that showcase MITRE’s mission in action and advance corporate goals. The ideal candidate has recent experience providing executive-level administrative support to senior leaders in a large, fast-paced organization and is excited to work alongside a collective of communications professionals with expertise in journalism, media relations, social media, marketing, graphic design, video, photography, strategic events, technical writing and editing, and more.

Roles & Responsibilities:

In this dynamic, fast-moving role, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Managing the daily schedule and the ability to prioritize and swiftly execute a high volume of internal/external requests, scheduling, meeting coordination and office collaboration.
  • Engaging with executives and responding quickly and efficiently to rapidly changing requests and anticipating needs of the office in alignment with identified priorities and corporate goals.
  • Preparing and processing expense reports promptly on behalf of the Communications and External Affairs office.
  • Engaging with Board Members, external partners, and senior executives from government, commercial industry, and academia, coordinating all aspects of sponsored events and internal/external office visits.
  • Event planning, coordinating, and supporting meetings, presentations, and employee engagement events hosted by the Communications and External Affairs Office.
  • Maintaining security of highly sensitive and confidential information
  • Contributing to a collaborative atmosphere among the Executive Admin team at the McLean and Bedford campuses, serving as a valuable and dependable colleague where roles may temporarily be covered for each other in case of vacation, illness, etc.
  • Coordinating with Executive Admin team to support Executive Leadership Staff meetings, Officer Meetings, and ad hoc meetings which includes the shared responsibilities of securing VTC rooms; coordinating agendas; gathering, delivering, and posting read-ahead materials, taking notes, and identifying post-meeting action items.
  • Oversee and strategically manage the center calendar and Teams channel, ensuring both are structured, effectively prioritized, and aligned with key business objectives, leadership commitments, and stakeholder communications.
  • Manage and execute Workday actions on behalf of the VP, including approvals, workflow follow-ups, and system updates to ensure timely and accurate processing.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree and at least 2 years of progressively responsible administrative support experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft 365 (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams).
  • Expert-level proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, including complex calendar management, meeting coordination, and inbox management.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently use and troubleshoot current mobile, desktop, and virtual meeting technologies (e.g., Apple devices such as iPhone, Mac, iPad; Microsoft Teams; Zoom; VTC systems).
  • Ability to work on-site in McLean, VA, Monday -Thursday, with flexibility to provide occasional off-hours support.
  • Ability to travel up to 1–2 times per year, primarily to other MITRE campuses, and other locations as needed in support of the office.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Exceptional interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated curiosity and adaptability in learning and applying emerging technologies, including a willingness to leverage tools such as artificial intelligence to enhance productivity, decision-making, and mission impact.
  • Experience with expense management software (e.g., Concur).
  • Experience with Workday or similar HR/enterprise systems.
  • Prior experience supporting C-suite or senior executives in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated poise, professionalism, tact, and discretion when working under time pressure with highly sensitive information and a wide range of stakeholders (corporate executives, government officials, customers, employees, and support personnel)..
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively and build strong working relationships across teams and levels.
  • Strong independent judgment, accuracy, and meticulous attention to detail, with consistent follow-through on a broad range of administrative tasks.
  • Strong self-organization and time management skills, with a high degree of initiative and the ability to prioritize competing demands.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and a project-management mindset toward managing office responsibilities and recurring processes.

Salary compensation range and midpoint:

$111,500 - $139,500 - $167,500 Annual
