Position Overview
The Estimator will be responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for MEP construction projects, including plumbing, HVAC, and fire protection systems. This role plays a critical part in securing new work and supporting project execution from preconstruction through award.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed cost estimates
- Perform quantity take-offs from drawings and specifications
- Analyze project documents including plans, specs, addenda, and bid packages
- Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and vendor pricing
- Develop budgets, value engineering options, and cost comparisons
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and leadership during preconstruction
- Attend site visits, pre-bid meetings, and client walkthroughs
- Maintain cost databases and historical pricing for future estimates
- Support bid submissions and ensure compliance with client requirements
Qualifications
- 3–10+ years of estimating experience within:
- Mechanical contracting
- Plumbing / HVAC / Fire Protection systems
- Strong knowledge of NYC construction market preferred
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and technical specifications
- Experience with public agency or infrastructure projects is a plus
- Proficiency in estimating software and Excel
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
