Job Description

The Estimator will prepare accurate and detailed cost estimates for commercial and light industrial construction projects. This role analyzes project requirements, develops competitive bids and budgets, and supports preconstruction and project management teams to ensure projects start with a clear and reliable financial plan.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare accurate and detailed cost estimates for commercial and light industrial construction projects.
  • Analyze labor, material, and time requirements to determine the overall cost of construction projects.
  • Develop and submit budgets, bids, and contracts in a timely and professional manner.
  • Read and interpret blueprints and construction documents to understand project scope and requirements.
  • Use construction management and project management software to develop, track, and update estimates.
  • Collaborate with preconstruction and project management teams to align estimates with project goals and schedules.
  • Identify, price, and process change orders, ensuring that scope changes are accurately reflected in project costs.
  • Utilize scheduling software and tools such as MS Project to understand and support project timelines.
  • Leverage tools such as Microsoft Excel, Bluebeam, and Procore to create, analyze, and present estimating data.
  • Support ongoing project management activities by providing cost information, updates, and clarifications as needed throughout the project lifecycle.
Essential Skills
  • Minimum of 3+ years of experience in construction estimating.
  • Experience working in a commercial or industrial construction setting.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints and construction documents.
  • Strong understanding of construction management principles and practices.
  • Hands-on experience with construction management and project management software.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel for estimating, cost analysis, and reporting.
  • Ability to analyze labor, material, and time requirements to develop accurate estimates.
  • Experience preparing budgets, bids, contracts, and change orders.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail when managing multiple estimates and deadlines.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in construction management, civil engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience with preconstruction processes and collaboration with project teams.
  • Familiarity with Bluebeam for digital plan review and takeoffs.
  • Experience using Procore or similar construction project management platforms.
  • Experience using MS Project or similar scheduling software.
  • Strong communication skills to clearly present and explain estimates to internal stakeholders.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a small team environment.
  • Interest in growing into leadership responsibilities over time.
Work Environment

This role operates in a small construction-focused company that values flexibility and work–life balance. Typical hours are Monday through Friday, generally between 6:30/7:00 a.m. and 4:00/5:00 p.m., with flexibility offered within that schedule. The Estimator works closely with preconstruction and project management teams and regularly uses technologies such as construction management software, project management platforms (including tools like Procore and MS Project), Bluebeam, and Microsoft Excel. Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Appleton, WI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $50.00/hr.
