The ESL Intake and Assessment Specialist serves as the initial enrollment representative for the Adult Education Program; administers standardized tests as required by Adult Education funding sources and assesses appropriate class placement of new Adult Education students; provides clerical support and database management, requiring independent judgment to the Adult Education Program; and communicates Adult Education Program services to the general public.
Provides data input into student information systems (Banner and TopsPro) for student registration, testing, attendance, and progress as required by grantors.
Administers Adult Education assessment tests and determines eligibility for services and appropriate class placement based on testing and intake information gathered.
Assists ineligible Adult Education applicants in identifying other College resources to meet their needs.
Registers eligible applicants and maintains ESL waitlist of students.
Follows up with students for retention purposes.
Identifies initial barriers to program participation and refers students to appropriate resources.
Creates complete and accurate enrollment records of adult education students to secure funding.
Creates and maintains databases of information to generate reports used for program planning purposes.
Maintains fiscal records related to program funding.
Inputs data and information into data systems for student registration, testing, attendance, and student progress.
Provides backup entering student information into curriculum software programs.
Arranges interpretive services for orientations, registrations, and events.
Maintains confidentiality and security of all student records.
DESCRIPTION OF OTHER JOB DUTIES:
Conveys information concerning all aspects of the Adult Education Program.
Creates and types correspondence, forms, reports.
Serves as a team member in the evaluation and on-going development and enhancement of Adult Education Intake Services.
Creates a service-oriented relationship with individuals seeking adult education instruction or information.
Assists in the creation and distribution of Adult Education marketing materials and mailings using Microsoft Publisher.
Places office supply orders for Adult Education department.
Performs other duties as assigned.
High school diploma or recognized equivalent required. Associate’s degree is desirable.
Bilingual in Spanish desirable.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite required.
Ability to work with diverse populations with a high degree of understanding and sensitivity of diverse cultures.
Ability to work as part of a team.
Ability to organize workload, multi-task, follow through on assignments and think critically with minimal supervision.
