Job Title: Environmental Health and Safety Specialist
Shift: Wednesday- Saturday from 5pm-3:30am
Job Description
The Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist supports, develops, communicates, trains, drives, manages, audits, improves, and measures EHS performance across a dynamic operation. This role focuses on developing and enhancing EHS compliance and risk management processes, driving understanding and engagement to improve EHS performance, influencing business unit leadership, and integrating EHS into daily operations. The EHS Specialist helps develop and execute comprehensive EHS compliance programs and ensures alignment with global EHS policies, regulatory requirements, and internal standards.
Responsibilities
- Support the development and implementation of environmental, health, and safety programs, tools, and standards in line with global EHS policies.
- Develop, execute, and maintain EHS compliance programs that meet regulatory, internal, and customer requirements.
- Train employees and communicate EHS policies and procedures in a manner that ensures understanding and compliance with regulatory and internal standards.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders to determine best-in-class methods to achieve EHS compliance.
- Conduct investigations of working conditions in places of employment to prevent occupational diseases and industrial health hazards.
- Promote EHS awareness throughout the organization through effective employee communications and participation initiatives.
- Serve as a key point of contact for safety and environmental issues, providing guidance and support to operations and leadership.
- Support regulated waste management activities, including consolidation, inspections, and compliance with applicable regulations.
- Perform compliance tasks such as stormwater sampling, waste inspections, chemical inventory management, and life safety audits.
- Execute and monitor compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and customer requirements related to environmental, health, and safety.
- Support and conduct EHS audits, develop action plans to resolve findings, and implement countermeasures promptly and effectively.
- Perform risk assessments and Job Hazard Analyses for new processes, equipment, and tasks to identify and mitigate potential risks.
- Maintain accurate daily, weekly, and monthly EHS metrics and reports for onsite management teams and corporate reporting systems.
- Support management efforts to ensure compliance with all corporate EHS program expectations and applicable federal and state laws.
- Recommend appropriate risk mitigation measures, including ergonomic improvements, to reduce injury and exposure risks.
- Establish and manage the safety committee to drive engagement, communication, and continuous improvement in EHS performance.
- Drive continual improvement efforts to reduce site safety and environmental risks and enhance overall EHS performance.
- Support site stand-up meetings, safety committees, and floor inspections to reinforce safety culture and identify improvement opportunities.
- Work flexible shifts, including days, nights, and weekends, as required to support operations and EHS initiatives.
Essential Skills
- Experience in environmental health and safety support, particularly in warehousing or similar operational environments (1+ years).
- Knowledge of EHS regulations and standards relevant to industrial and operational environments.
- Working knowledge of OSHA regulations, specifically 29 CFR 1910.
- Experience performing risk assessments and Job Hazard Analyses for jobs, processes, and equipment.
- Ability to conduct investigations of working conditions to prevent occupational disease and industrial health hazards.
- Experience with EHS compliance activities such as waste inspections, stormwater sampling, chemical inventory, and life safety audits.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel in a professional capacity for documentation, reporting, and analysis.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality in matters involving security and personnel issues.
- Strong communication skills to promote EHS awareness and deliver effective training and guidance.
- Ability to build and maintain relationships with stakeholders to support EHS initiatives and compliance.
- Capability to collect, track, and report EHS metrics accurately and consistently.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in industrial hygiene, occupational health, environmental engineering, environmental science, or a related field, or relevant equivalent experience.
- Ability to lift up to 49 pounds and to stand or walk for up to 10 hours during a shift.
- Experience in a manufacturing plant or industrial environment.
- Experience supporting EHS in warehousing operations.
- Demonstrated ability to recommend and implement ergonomic risk mitigation measures.
- Experience establishing or managing safety committees.
- Ability to support and conduct EHS audits and develop effective corrective action plans.
- Interest in supporting cutting-edge operations, including advanced technology systems such as low Earth orbit satellite initiatives.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract position based out of Redmond, WA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $50.00 - $60.00/hr.
