Job Title: Environmental Engineer (Maryland PE)Job DescriptionThis role offers an immediate opportunity for an experienced Environmental Engineer to lead and support complex environmental projects across military, government, and commercial sectors. You will serve as a Maryland Professional Engineer, apply advanced AutoCAD and Civil 3D skills, and contribute directly to the technical quality and successful delivery of projects involving PFAS remediation, environmental compliance, and related regulatory frameworks. The position provides a high level of autonomy, client interaction, and the chance to manage projects from day one within a hybrid field-based environment.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the designated Maryland Professional Engineer on a variety of environmental projects, ensuring all work meets applicable standards and regulations.
- Lead and support projects in military, government (including EPA), and commercial sectors, with a focus on environmental engineering and remediation.
- Utilize AutoCAD and Civil 3D extensively to create, refine, and manage detailed maps, drawings, and design documents for environmental projects.
- Apply environmental engineering expertise to projects involving PFAS remediation, landfill-related work, environmental science, geology, and environmental compliance.
- Incorporate regulatory requirements such as CERCLA, RCRA, SWPPP, and NEPA into project planning, design, and execution.
- Collaborate closely with program and project managers to plan, coordinate, and deliver projects on time and within scope.
- Contribute to the technical excellence and quality of project outcomes by performing thorough analyses, reviews, and quality checks of engineering work products.
- Engage in client-facing activities, including meetings, presentations, and ongoing communication, to understand needs and provide clear technical guidance.
- Operate within a seller-doer model by helping to develop opportunities, support proposals, and then lead or execute the resulting projects.
- Manage projects in the field from the outset, taking ownership of tasks, schedules, and deliverables while maintaining strong communication with internal and external stakeholders.
Essential Skills- 5–8 years of experience in environmental engineering or closely related fields.
- Active Maryland Professional Engineer (PE) license, or a PE license from another state that can obtain reciprocity within six months of hire.
- Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD with the ability to independently create, refine, and manage detailed maps and engineering drawings.
- Strong background in environmental engineering, with practical experience in environmental science, geology, or related disciplines.
- Experience with PFAS remediation projects or similar environmental remediation efforts.
- Working knowledge of landfill-related engineering or compliance activities.
- Familiarity with key environmental and regulatory frameworks, including CERCLA, RCRA, SWPPP, and NEPA.
- Proficiency with Civil 3D for design and drafting in environmental or civil engineering contexts.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with program and project managers to ensure successful project delivery.
- Strong communication skills, including the ability to interact confidently in client-facing situations.
- Demonstrated ability to manage projects with a high degree of autonomy from the field.
Additional Skills & Qualifications- Landfill experience, while not required, is a significant plus and can accelerate consideration for this role.
- Experience operating within a seller-doer model, contributing to both business development and project execution.
- Comfort and effectiveness in client-facing roles, including relationship building and ongoing client communication.
- background in environmental science, geology, or related disciplines that complements core environmental engineering expertise.
- Experience with projects involving military installations, federal agencies such as the EPA, or commercial clients.
- Exposure to data center projects or infrastructure-related environmental work is beneficial.
Work EnvironmentThis position follows a hybrid work model that includes significant field-based activity. You will work on projects that may involve Army, Navy, and EPA sites, as well as commercial and data center projects located in areas such as Frederick County, Howard County, and Carroll County. The role emphasizes hands-on project management in the field, frequent collaboration with project and program managers, and direct interaction with clients. You will regularly use technologies such as AutoCAD and Civil 3D, along with other standard engineering tools, to produce high-quality technical deliverables. This is a Contract position based out of Germantown, MD.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $45.67 - $55.29/hr.
