Position Overview

The Senior Manager of EH&S and Environmental Compliance is a Senior-level consulting role responsible for leading complex, multi-site environmental compliance programs for a diverse client base. This position provides strategic oversight across multiple regulatory programs and serves as a trusted advisor to clients navigating complex and evolving regulatory environments.The role is designed for a highly experienced professional who exercises independent judgment, develops risk-based regulatory strategies, and delivers practical, business-aligned solutions. This position is a defined career-track role with advancement opportunities into a Principal-level leadership position based on performance, leadership, and contribution to practice growth.


Key Responsibilities

Environmental Compliance Leadership

  • Lead and oversee environmental compliance programs across hazardous materials, hazardous waste, AST/UST, stormwater, wastewater, and air quality
  • Interpret and apply complex federal, state, and local environmental regulations across multiple jurisdictions
  • Identify compliance risks and develop proactive, defensible, and risk-based mitigation strategies
  • Guide clients through regulatory challenges, inspections, audits, and enforcement actions

Client Advisory & Regulatory Interface

  • Serve as a primary client advisor and regulatory liaison
  • Act as the main point of contact with regulatory agencies (e.g., CUPAs, DTSC, Water Boards, air districts, and local authorities)
  • Provide strategic guidance on regulatory applicability, exceptions, and alternative compliance approaches
  • Prepare and deliver defensible responses to regulatory inquiries

Program & Project Management

  • Manage multiple client programs and projects simultaneously, ensuring delivery within scope, schedule, and budget
  • Lead environmental compliance assessments, audits, and corrective action planning
  • Develop, implement, and enhance environmental compliance programs, SOPs, and management systems (ISO 14001 / ISO 45001)
  • Oversee subcontractor scope development, quality assurance, and coordination

Technical Expertise Areas

  • Hazardous materials and hazardous waste program development, CERS reporting, and contingency planning
  • AST/UST compliance programs, inspections, and SPCC planning (40 CFR 112)
  • Environmental permitting strategies including air, wastewater discharge, and tank permits

Business Development & Practice Growth

  • Identify new opportunities and expand existing client relationships
  • Support proposal development, scope definition, and client pursuits
  • Collaborate internally with engineering and environmental teams to deliver integrated solutions
  • Contribute to the strategic growth and direction of the environmental compliance practice

Leadership & Mentorship

  • Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior and mid-level staff
  • Promote knowledge sharing and professional development within the team
  • Demonstrate leadership presence with clients, regulators, and internal stakeholders
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related discipline
  • 15+ years of experience in environmental compliance, regulatory consulting, or related fields
  • Deep working knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental regulations
  • Proven experience leading complex, multi-site environmental compliance programs
  • Extensive experience interfacing with regulatory agencies and managing inspections and enforcement actions
  • Professional certifications such as CHMM, CSP, and/or CIH strongly preferred

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $160000.00 - $220000.00/yr.
