As the company's second line of defense, Corporate Risk — or Independent Risk Management — provides independent oversight of risk-taking activities. Independent Risk Management establishes and maintains Wells Fargo's risk management program and provides oversight, including challenges to and independent assessment of, the frontline's execution of its risk management responsibilities. We manage risk according to the Risk Management Framework and ensure all employees understand their individual accountability for managing risk. Corporate Risk roles depend on a variety of skills, including: Data analysis and synthesis, root cause analysis, change management, process management & execution, risk governance, risk strategy, risk identification & assessment, risk prevention, controls & mitigation, risk monitoring, reporting & escalation, risk systems & technology.

Risk management at Wells Fargo is organized with clearly defined lines of defense to provide effective risk oversight and decision-making across the organization. Each line of defense is assigned specific responsibilities and understands the associated activities it is expected to perform.

Independent risk management in Corporate Risk is responsible for independent oversight of risk-taking activities. The function is led by the Chief Risk Officer, who reports to the chair of the Risk Committee of the Board of Directors. Strategic enterprise function-aligned leaders in the Corporate Risk organization provide an independent view of horizontal, cross-business risks.

Strategic Enterprise Risk Management (SERM) is a group directly under the Chief Risk Officer that is responsible for a variety of strategic functions within Corporate Risk that includes risk reporting, risk governance, risk programs that oversee risk measurement and risk identification, strategic and reputational risk oversight, and risk optimization and strategy.

This role within the Enterprise Risk Identification and Assessment team will help support execution of quarterly ERIA process including various strategic enhancements to the program. The candidate will have primary responsibility for the following: 

  • Support the execution of the Enterprise Risk ID quarterly process including supporting the development and maintenance of the enterprise risk inventory, support front line and IRM functions in the completion of risk assessments, and support various reporting and data analytics functions. 
  • Support the foundational risk component ownership role for ERIA including providing subject matter expertise on the content and use of the following foundational risk components including but not limited to: risk event, risk driver, etc.  
  • Support the execution of strategic enhancements in support of ERIA Program evolution including but not limited to: migration to continuous assessment methodology, increased granularity within the Enterprise Risk Inventory, implementation of new risk materiality scale, and implementation of the risk and control taxonomy.
     


Required Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience in risk management (includes compliance, financial crimes, operational risk, audit, legal, credit risk, market risk, IT systems security, business process management) or 7+ years of financial services industry experience, of which 5+ years must include direct experience in risk management

Other Desired Qualifications
  • Proven experience with risk and control taxonomy and/or risk and control self-assessment (RCSA) 
  • Proven experience with Enterprise Risk Identification process
  • Experience building and implementing risk program
  • Experience with data analytics and risk reporting 
  • Possession of a Master’s Degree and/or an industry designation such as PRM, FRM, CRMA, CFA, ERP, or similar designations will be an asset

  • Ability to travel up to 5% of the time
