Job Title: Engineering TechnicianJob DescriptionThe Engineering Technician interprets engineering prints and models, creates CNC programs, and sets up Swiss and milling machine centers to produce high-precision components. This role develops capable, cost-effective, and sustainable manufacturing processes, supports continuous improvement initiatives, and ensures that all products meet stringent quality and regulatory requirements. The Engineering Technician collaborates closely with cross-functional teams, applies LEAN principles, and uses CAD/CAM tools to enhance productivity, reduce cycle times, and optimize tooling and machining operations in a growing medical device manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities
- Interpret engineering prints and 3D models to create accurate CNC programs for Swiss and milling machine centers.
- Set up CNC machines and related equipment to produce components that meet all specifications and quality requirements.
- Select cutting tools that deliver cost-effective tool life while fully utilizing tool capabilities.
- Develop machining processes that are capable, repeatable, cost effective, and sustainable for production.
- Write clear work instructions and procedures to support machining and secondary operational processes.
- Apply a full understanding of G-code to program, optimize, and troubleshoot CNC operations.
- Advocate for and implement the highest quality standards and LEAN manufacturing principles across daily activities.
- Assess, interpret, and communicate technical specifications and requirements to all relevant departments.
- Identify, lead, and complete continuous improvement projects focused on cycle time reduction and perishable tooling selection and cost reduction.
- Create, plan, and coordinate engineering tests to validate processes and tooling.
- Perform quality assurance tests to ensure components and processes comply with all specifications and standards.
- Assist in or lead the development of tool design and CNC programming for new and existing products.
- Modify bills of material (BOM) and bills of operation (BOO) within the ERP system through established change control processes.
- Assist with costing and quoting functions related to tooling and machining processes.
- Troubleshoot and resolve daily manufacturing issues using a structured LEAN problem-solving approach.
- Maintain and optimize machining and secondary operational processes to support consistent production performance.
- Support validation activities and change control for CNC processes and machining equipment.
- Collaborate with engineering, production, and quality teams to support new product introduction and process improvements.
Essential Skills- 2–3 years of experience in a technical field, preferably related to CNC machining or manufacturing engineering.
- Hands-on experience with CNC process improvements, troubleshooting, validation, and change control.
- Experience using CAD and CAM software, preferably SolidWorks, NX, and Esprit.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, models, and technical specifications for complex parts.
- Proficiency with G-code programming and CNC mill and Swiss machine programming.
- Experience with machining equipment and maintaining machining and secondary operational processes.
- Proficient PC skills in a Windows environment, especially Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills for documentation and cross-functional collaboration.
- Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills to work effectively with engineering, production, and quality teams.
- Demonstrated experience with continuous improvement and continuous process improvement in a manufacturing setting.
Additional Skills & Qualifications- Experience in the design and selection of fixturing and tooling for complex, precision components.
- Background in a precision manufacturing shop environment, ideally in the medical device or medical technology industry.
- Experience with fixture and tooling design and engineering for CNC machining.
- Familiarity with LEAN manufacturing principles and LEAN Six Sigma methodologies, with training and demonstrated application.
- Experience working within an ISO-regulated environment.
- Experience supporting or leading engineering tests, validation activities, and process documentation.
- Ability to participate in costing and quoting activities related to tooling and machining processes.
- Strong troubleshooting skills for CNC equipment, tooling, and machining processes.
Work EnvironmentThis role is based in a precision manufacturing environment focused on medical device and medical technology components. You will work with CNC Swiss and milling machine centers, CAD/CAM software such as SolidWorks, NX, and Esprit, and standard machining equipment within an ISO-regulated facility that emphasizes high quality and LEAN manufacturing practices. The typical schedule is a day shift from Monday through Thursday with 10-hour days, and Friday for approximately 5.5 hours, with flexibility on start and end times. The organization is in a growth phase, with investment in expanding capabilities, engineering resources, and new revenue streams, providing opportunities to contribute to process improvements and career development in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $80000.00 - $91500.00/yr.
