Job Duties:
The City of Virginia Beach Development Services Center (DSC) with the Department of Planning and Community Development is seeking an Engineering Technician I/II to join our team. The DSC reviews and approves all site development plans for the City of Virginia Beach. Actual job level (e.g. Engineering Technician I or II) will be determined on the qualifications of the selected applicant and made part of the job offer. The associated pay grades and ranges are as follows:
Engineering Tech I: G.22 $49,254.40 - $76,336.00
Engineering Tech II: G.24 $54,288.00 - $84,156.80

Minimum Requirements:
Engineering Technician I Minimum Qualifications: High school or GED plus two (2) years’ experience in a related field such as civil engineering, drafting, surveying, or planning; demonstrated CADD/GIS/computer experience, or any equivalent combination of experience and formal training that provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities
Engineering Technician II Minimum Qualifications: High school or GED plus five (5) years’ experience in a field associated with civil engineering, drafting, surveying, or planning; demonstrated CADD/GIS/computer experience, or any equivalent combinations of experience and formal training that provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Preferred Qualifications:
Certification as an Engineering Technician by the National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies.
Special Requirements:
All employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.

Preferences:
• Work experience in Land Development related field
• Knowledge in Land development related processes (school or work)
• Experience interpreting construction site plans or surveys
• Excellent written, verbal, and people skills
• Virginia DEQ certification as a Stormwater or E&S Plan Reviewer, Inspector, or Program Administrator
• Certification as an Engineering Technician by the National Institute for Certification in Engineering
Technologies
• Experience with Microsoft Office programs (Excel, Word, Outlook)
Special Instructions:
VRS Contribution: All full-time employees are required to contribute 5% of annual salary toward their retirement account; in accordance with VRS retirement provisions. This will be handled through a pre-tax payroll deduction.
