About this Job:

The primary purpose of this position is assisting professional engineers and/or higher-level technicians in the performance of traffic data collection and analysis work in a District Traffic Operations Office. This individual also provides functional supervision over the sign shop, striping crew, and signal shop. This position is located in District 62, Unit 002, of the Department of Transportation and Development and reports directly to the Engineer 6. .The incumbent will participate inappropriate DOTD structured training programs as appropriate and attend all continuing education classes and conferences deemed necessary to facilitate the performance of required tasks. The incumbent must be self-motivated and be able to perform duties many times with or with minimal supervision and also be able to interpret unforeseen conditions as they may arise.

Possession of a high school diploma or GED plus three years of sub-professional engineering experience; OR

Six months of experience in sub-professional engineering, heavy mobile equipment operation, or mobile equipment maintenance plus three years of sub-professional engineering experience; OR

Eighteen semester hours in one of the following specialized fields: architecture, cartography, construction management, construction technology, drafting, engineering, engineering graphics, engineering technology, industrial technology, landscape architecture, math, or physics.The official job specifications for this role, as defined by the State Civil Service, can be found here.

Job Duties:

  • Collect and analyze traffic data (counts, speeds, crash history) to evaluate roadway performance and safety.
  • Develop traffic control plans, signal inventories, and design drawings using Bentley MicroStation (CADD).
  • Conduct engineering studies (speed, signal, stop control, roundabout, turn lane) using tools like HCS, Synchro, and SIDRA.
  • Prepare technical reports with recommendations for safety and capacity improvements, reviewed by a licensed engineer.
  • Perform field inspections, traffic observations, and assist with signal timing adjustments and troubleshooting.
  • Coordinate with agencies and the public to review permits, ensure compliance with MUTCD standards, and manage signage programs.
  • Inspect and maintain inventories of traffic signs, signals, and outdoor advertising; address violations and process permits.
  • Support field crews by marking locations, issuing work orders, and specifying signage, striping, and traffic control devices.

Compensation:$ 24.04/hourly 1,923.00/biweekly

Additional $2.00/Hourly Premium Pay for Every Hour Worked
