About the Role

This is not a design-only position. This role is deeply connected to the shop floor and requires someone who can work directly with production, solve real-time manufacturing challenges, and take ownership of engineering execution and quoting accuracy.

This position will play a key role in helping the business scale by taking on day-to-day technical and estimating responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

Manufacturing & Engineering Leadership

  • Work directly with the shop floor (lasers, press brakes, CNC, finishing) to resolve production challenges
  • Serve as the technical authority on manufacturability, materials, tolerances, and complex customer requirements
  • Provide guidance on design for manufacturability (DFM) and process improvements
  • Establish and maintain practical engineering standards, processes, and documentation

Estimating & Costing

  • Own and oversee the estimating function to ensure accurate and competitive quotes
  • Review complex or high-value quotes, validating technical feasibility and cost assumptions
  • Utilize ERP and estimating systems to improve consistency and accuracy in quoting

Team Leadership

  • Lead and develop a small engineering and estimating team
  • Set performance expectations and support ongoing development
  • Participate in hiring and onboarding as the team grows

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner closely with production, sales, and quality teams
  • Participate in customer discussions as a technical and manufacturing expert
  • Support operational improvements and long-term growth initiatives

Qualifications

Required

  • 10+ years of hands-on manufacturing experience (not design-only)
  • Strong experience in sheet metal fabrication and/or CNC machining
  • Direct exposure to shop floor operations (lasers, press brakes, CNC equipment)
  • Experience working with manufacturing ERP systems
  • Proven ability to take ownership and lead in a hands-on environment
  • Authorized to work in the U.S. (no sponsorship available)

Preferred

  • Prior engineering management or team leadership experience
  • Experience in high-mix, low-to-medium volume manufacturing environments
  • Background in Lean manufacturing or continuous improvement
  • Familiarity with regional manufacturing markets

Compensation & Work Environment

  • Base Salary: $120,000 – $135,000
