Columbus Water and Power is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Engineer-In-Training (EIT) for the Asset Management Group. This position is responsible for performing maintenance and reliability engineering analyses, as well as proposing strategies and techniques to enhance effectiveness and efficiency of operations and maintenance. This includes preventive maintenance optimization (PMO), failure modes effects analysis (FMEA), and root cause analysis (RCA). Other duties will include performing related work and initiatives supporting the Asset Management Group.

The desired candidates will have knowledge or background with, or be willing to learn, computerized maintenance management software (CMMS), geographic information systems (GIS), and work experience with project management, operation, and maintenance of municipal utility systems.

Prepares and reviews engineering plans and designs for structures, facilities, or systems;

Prepares and reviews reports and studies to identify and recommend engineering solutions;

Prepares proposals and specifications for new construction and facilities repair projects;

Reviews construction documents as a plans examiner trainee for compliance with building and other codes;

Tabulates and evaluates bids on small projects; determines adequacy of various materials used in the projects;

Learns to prepare estimates of costs and quantities of supplies and equipment necessary for construction; learns to test and examine equipment;

Makes site inspections of work; tests and evaluates equipment and materials currently in use;

Prepares technical reports and support data;

Consults with contractors; interprets contract specifications;

Designs small systems and work order plans;

Utilizes database management and analytic tools such as Geographical Information Systems (GIS) to manage data and to review and generate maps;

May observe construction and provide recommendations concerning construction activities;

May attend review meetings with in-house and outsourced providers;

May supervise subordinate staff engaged in performing paraprofessional engineering work;

May assign work to drafting personnel for completed working drawings of proposed project.

Possession of a Bachelor of Science in Engineering.


Possession of a valid driver’s license.
