Electronics Technician

Actalent
Westford, MA

Description

Job Summary

We are seeking an Electronics Technician with deep expertise in soldering, particularly fine-pitch surface mount components, small passive devices, and temperature-sensitive rework. This role is heavily hands-on and lab-based, with approximately 99% of priorities focused on soldering activities. While fine-pitch work is critical, the majority of daily tasks will consist of standard soldering work that should be routine for a highly skilled technician.

The ideal candidate is an expert in working within tight, densely populated PCB areas, including components with hidden pins and center ground pads, and can consistently produce high-quality, reliable results. Long-term growth in this role requires the ability to read and understand electronic schematics, and any broader electronics experience is considered a strong plus.

A hands-on soldering test in the lab will be part of the interview process.

Key Responsibilities

Soldering & Rework (Primary Focus)

• Perform expert-level fine-pitch soldering, including components with tight pin spacing, center ground pads, and hidden or difficult-to-access pins.

• Solder and rework small passive components and larger components that are sensitive to temperature.

• Execute rework and repair without damaging pads, traces, or surrounding components.

• Perform standard surface-mount and through-hole soldering as part of routine lab support.

• Maintain exceptional workmanship standards to ensure reliability and functionality.

Note: PGA soldering is not required for this role.

Lab & Team Support

• Support the rest of the electronics lab during downtime between soldering tasks.

• Assist with general lab activities as needed, while maintaining soldering as the top priority.

• Collaborate with engineers and technicians to support ongoing projects.

Technical Understanding

• Read and interpret electronic schematics to understand board layouts, signal paths, and component functions.

• Apply schematic knowledge to improve soldering accuracy and efficiency.

• Leverage any additional electronics knowledge as a plus.

Documentation & Communication

• Document rework, repairs, and processes clearly and accurately.

• Communicate effectively with engineering and lab staff regarding soldering constraints, risks, or observations.

Required

• Proven expertise in soldering with strong emphasis on fine-pitch surface mount components.

• Demonstrated ability to work on components with hidden pins and center ground pads.

• Ability to read and understand electronic schematics.

• Strong attention to detail and pride in workmanship.

• Comfortable working independently in a lab environment.

Preferred / Plus Skills

• Additional electronics experience beyond soldering such as troubleshooting or testing.

• Experience using lab tools such as oscilloscopes and multimeters.
