MajorDuties

  • G Band: Requires basic knowledge of electrical engineering. Electrical engineering covers complex navigational systems (RADAR, Instrument Landing, Localizer, Glide slope, Weather and Communication). Review National Change Proposals and provides input. Receives training in the various phases of engineering work as classroom instruction and/or on-the-job training assignments. Conducts routine project activities and technical surveys or inspections and prepares reports. Work activities typically support the work of other employees and activities of the organizational unit. Tasks assigned include Identifying and resolving National Airspace System operational problems within their specialized area. The engineer analyzes impacts of Obstruction Evaluation/ Airport Airspace Analysis (OE/AAA) and Non-Rulemaking Activity (NRA) on NAS operations in accordance with established orders, standards, codes and drawings or other specifications. Makes few independent technical decisions and these are of a routine nature with ample precedent or clearly defined procedures as guidance. H band: Applies experience and detailed knowledge of engineering principles, theories, and concepts to plan and accomplish assignments. Typically requires skill in the use of relevant computer applications. Assists senior engineers in project accomplishment and performing technical tasks requiring accuracy in calculations, completeness of data, and adherence to prescribed testing, analysis, design, and/or computation methods. Designs work of limited scope; inspections; site survey team member; collecting and analyzing data; implementation; performing trend analyses; engineering testing; and recommending improvements to the design and/or operation of systems, equipment, or processes. Contacts are primarily internal to the organizational unit, major subdivision, and LOB, with some contact with contractors, and external organizations. Contacts are typically intended to share information, provide data and/or written analyses, and to discuss the status of assignments. I band: Applies experience and advanced knowledge of engineering principles, theories, and concepts applicable to his/her discipline to accomplish assignments and to develop plans and techniques to improve programs and policies. Requires an advanced of e1ectronrcs engineering and specific knowledge of one or more complex NAS systems (RADAR, Instrument Landing. Localizer, Glide Slope, Weather and Communications). Identifies and resolves National Airspace System (NAS) operational problems within their specialized area. The engineer analyzes impacts of Obstruction Evaluation/Airport Airspace Analysis (OE/AAA) and Non-Rulemaking Activity (NRA) on NAS operations. Communicates Internal and external concerns and recommends alternatives. Reviews National Change Proposal and provides input. Defines, plans, and organizes assigned resources to accomplish organizational objectives. Allocates resources to accomplish small work-activities within established schedules. The journeyman engineer researches and provides technical analysis of electronics problems that affects the NAS. The engineer provides solutions to systemic challenges in their discipline that cause a negative impact on NAS equipment. Reviews engineering plans and specifications for NAS modernization projects and provides comments to address maintainability issues.
