Why Work Here?
This opportunity offers the stability of a long-established mining operation where the product is essential and demand remains steady. You work in a union-protected environment with clear job boundaries, seniority rules, and a defined overtime structure, supported by a strong relationship with the local union. Safety is deeply embedded in daily operations under MSHA regulations, ensuring that procedures, training, and equipment are designed with worker protection in mind. Skilled trades professionals can build a long-term career on mission-critical infrastructure, knowing the operation has been running for generations and is committed to continued investment and safe, reliable production.
Work Environment
This role is based in an underground salt mine, with work performed both underground and at surface facilities. Employees work hundreds of feet below ground in large excavated salt rooms created by drill-and-blast mining methods. The underground environment is open with high ceilings but can be dark in some areas, relying on cap lamps and equipment lighting for visibility. Conditions include variable temperatures and humidity, outdoor weather exposure at the surface, noise, and dust. Work areas are generally dry, but ground conditions can be uneven, slick, or changing, including floor heave and polished surfaces from mobile equipment traffic. You will work around moving machinery and energized power cables, requiring constant attention to roof and rib conditions and other mining hazards. The role involves significant physical activity, including prolonged standing, long-distance walking, extended seated equipment operation with whole-body vibration, working at heights with a full-body harness, shoveling and cleaning spillage, lifting materials up to 65 pounds, and climbing ladders of 30 feet or more. The environment is inherently dirty and heavy industrial in nature, and it is best suited to individuals comfortable in steel mill, quarry, foundry, or similar settings. The position follows a 2nd shift schedule from 2:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., with frequent Saturday work for overtime.
