Our Development Services Department is looking for an Electrical Plan Reviewer to join our team. You will review plans for residential and commercial projects to verify if they comply with the applicable construction codes while providing exceptional customer service to building owners, occupants, contractors, and the public.Individuals with electrical review experience and a Washington State journeyman electrical license EL01 or greater are encouraged to apply.Candidates meeting the requirements for additional experience and certifications may be eligible to be placed in a higher job classification and salary range.

  • Performs technical code review of plans for commercial and residential structures and systems toensure compliance with the National Electrical Code,Washington Cities Electrical Code,and the Bellevue Construction code which consists of the International Building, Residential, and Mechanical Codes, the Uniform Plumbing Code, Washington State Energy Code, Washington State Regulations for Barrier Free Facilities.
  • Prepares quality written work products, such as correction notices or other correspondence to property owners and contractors outlining necessary corrections required to assure code compliance for projects under construction.
  • Works with other department and city review staff to coordinate project review and resolve potential conflicts in code requirements to ensure a timely review.
  • Provides a high level of customer service in working with designers, contractors, developers, homeowners, and citizens.
  • Demonstrates excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to tailor communications to relay technical information and direction to owners, applicants, contractors, and staff in a manner understandable to each.
  • Responds to customer inquiries regarding compliance with electrical and construction codes and the City's permit processing procedures.
  • Is proficient with basic computer and electronic technology and related office software commonly used in electronic permitting, plan review, and inspection processes.
  • Responsible for record keeping and data entry of technical information associated with project review.
  • Implements enforcement procedures to correct violations under the direction of the Supervisor, Inspection Services Manager, or Building Official, depending on the violation.
  • Is an effective team player and utilizes a collaborative decision-making style to resolve issues or conflicts in a timely manner.
  • Involved in frequent interactions with developers, architects, engineers and contractors regarding code compliance for proposed projects and projects currently under construction while using a constructive problem-solving approach to resolve issues.
  • Works withmultipleCity departments and other inspection staff to coordinate Certificate of Occupancy and Temporary Certificate of Occupancy processes to identify and resolve issues to assure a timely and clear city decision.
  • Actively participates in the development, refinement and management of code implementation procedures, including handouts, tip sheets, and other support materials.
  • Participates in department discussions concerning code interpretations.
  • Attends training to improve technical, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Attends preapplication and preconstruction conferences.
  • Mediates conflicts, elicits cooperation from others, offers persuasive arguments in support of the City's position.
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with other employees, public and private officials, builders, designers, and the public.
  • Analyzes complex issues and makes timely decisions under pressure.
  • Help with training and/or mentoring of inspection and review staff.
Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor or manager.

Primary Experience:

REQUIRED:

  • Possession of a current Journeyman Electrician Certificate (EL01) or ME01 Master Electrician Certificate issued by the Department of Labor and Industries and four years of experience as a journeyman electrician after obtaining an EL01 license or certificate by examination from another state electrical licensing or certification authority that has a reciprocal licensing agreement with the department for journey level electricians, or;
    • Four years experience as journey level electricians in the electrical construction trade installing and maintaining electrical wiring and equipment, or;
    • Four years experience as a journey level electrician performing the duties of an electrical inspector employed by the department or a city or town with an approved inspection program under RCW19.28.141
  • Must be able to analyze information, develop logical conclusions, and make recommendations within the framework of established policies and procedures.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Must be able to develop and maintain good working relationships with contractors, homeowners, coworkers, and management staff.
  • Must be able to prioritize and manage multiple work tasks.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and meet established deadlines.
  • Must be able to deal effectively with sensitive projects and work with others in a team environment.
  • Must be able to respond diplomatically to angry clients.

Or any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the essential job duties and responsibilities.

Secondary Experience:

  • Two years or more experience as a jurisdictional electrical plans examiner or inspector is preferred.
  • Two years electrical design or engineering experience
  • Two years electrical superintendent or foreman experience.
  • Combination building, mechanical, plumbing, and inspection experience preferred.
  • ICC Plan Review or Inspection certifications preferred.
  • Safe and acceptable driving record and valid current Washington State driver's license preferred.
