Under the general direction of the Operations Manager, the Electrical Equipment Superintendent plans, organizes, and supervises the work of operational teams engaged in the maintenance and operation of electrical distribution systems, substations, and metering equipment. The role ensures safe, reliable service delivery through rigorous technical oversight and compliance with state and federal standards. The Superintendent will guide high voltage switching operations, oversee hot stick and live line work practices, and support AMP’s commitment to safety, training, and continuous improvement. This position serves as a key member of the Engineering and Operations Division, which includes approximately 45 employees responsible for keeping Alameda’s electric system modern, resilient, and community focused. ........................3........................ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT SUPERINTENDENT Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate is a collaborative and technically strong utility professional who thrives in hands on leadership roles and values mentorship, safety, and team development. They will bring: • Extensive technical expertise in utility operations, including meter and equipment testing, maintenance, and distribution system dispatching via SCADA. • Strong regulatory knowledge of Cal OSHA, NERC, FERC, NFPA 70E, and CPUC standards. • Proven leadership experience supervising field crews and managing construction, maintenance, or engineering operations within a public utility or similar environment. • A bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related discipline (preferred). • Professional certification such as California Professional Engineer (PE), Certified Testing Engineer, Certified Substation Technician, or journey level Lineman or Electrician status (desired). • A strong record of building trust, driving performance improvements, and implementing innovative utility systems.Key Responsibilities • Plan, direct, and coordinate operation and maintenance of AMP’s electrical equipment, substations, and metering systems. • Supervise transmission and distribution system operations including high voltage switching (up to 115 kV) and live line procedures. • Lead testing, servicing, and repair of equipment such as circuit breakers, voltage regulators, reclosers, and protective relays. • Oversee SCADA and radio communications system operations and maintenance. • Manage asset lifecycle plans, equipment procurement, and consultant or vendor contracts. • Ensure safety protocols and training programs are consistently implemented across all field activities. • Develop budgets and multi year capital plans aligned with AMP’s strategic goals. • Participate in emergency restoration and after hours response as needed. ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT SUPERINTENDENT4 Qualifications Education Graduation from high school supplemented by college coursework in science, electronics, or engineering is required; a bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field is preferred. Experience Five years of progressively responsible experience in electric utility operations and maintenance including supervisory or lead responsibility for field crews. Experience with SCADA dispatching, metering systems, and substation equipment is strongly desired. Licenses and Certifications Possession of a valid California Driver’s License is required. Professional Engineer (PE) license, Certified Substation Technician, or equivalent certification is desirable. Compensation & Benefits Annual Salary Range: $188,695.00 - $229,360.00.
