Electrical Engineer Job Responsibilities:


PCB/System Design:

  • Design, verification, and assembly of multi-layer printed circuit boards (PCB) and High-density build-up (HDBU) substrates, both organic (FR4, etc) and inorganic (Ceramic, Alumina, etc).
  • Develop schematics and PCB layouts that conform to project requirements.
  • Generate test plans that satisfy requirement verification and validation.


Embedded Programming:

  • Develop firmware/software/HDL/RTL for microcontrollers (MCUs) and FPGAs used in embedded systems.
  • Write and debug code in programming languages such as C/C++, Assembly, Verilog (preferred)/VHDL.
  • Implement communication protocols (UART, I2C, SPI, etc.) to enable data exchange among MCUs, FPGAs, and other devices.
  • Interface with various sensors, actuators, and peripherals to enable system functionality.
  • Conduct unit testing and troubleshooting of embedded systems to ensure proper functionality and performance.


Laboratory Operations:

  • Set up and configure test environments for PCB-level systems.
  • Conduct functional and performance testing of PCBs and embedded systems.
  • Use laboratory equipment (e.g., oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, multimeters) to measure and analyze electrical signals.
  • Document test procedures, observations, and results accurately.
  • Identify and troubleshoot hardware and software issues encountered during testing and implement appropriate reworks and code fixes.


Fabrication and Assembly:

  • Collaborate with vendors or coordinate in-house manufacturing and assembly processes.
  • Generate manufacturing files (Gerber files, assembly drawings, BOM) for PCB production.
  • Ensure timely procurement of components and materials for PCB manufacturing.
  • Review and approve PCB prototypes and production samples.
  • Manage quality control processes to ensure compliance with design specifications and industry standards.
  • Learn in-house manufacturing and assembly processes to implement more projects in-house.
  • Contribute to Design-for-Manufacturing (DFM) documentation and push the development of in-house capabilities.


Documentation & Collaboration:

  • Collaborate with peers and stakeholders (i.e., Customer) to understand and document design specifications and project goals.
  • Capture customer requirements and suggest and implement solutions to customer problems.
  • Generate extremely accurate and descriptive documentation of the project(s) and present it to peers and customers.
  • Conduct design reviews to ensure compliance with design guidelines & requirements, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in QMS system compliance, documentation, and Audit procedures.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Proficient in professional-grade PCB design and analysis tools: Altium Designer (preferred), OrCAD, Allegro, etc...
  • Knowledge of PCB layout principles and techniques, including power supply design, high-speed design, noise mitigation, and signal integrity.
  • Familiarity with schematic capture, component libraries, and design rule checking (DRC).
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes and design for manufacturability and design for testability (DFM/DFT) considerations.
  • Experience using common scripting languages (e.g., Python) for testing and debugging purposes in an electronics lab.
  • Ability to select appropriate components and read datasheets to understand and implement proper usage of the components.
  • Strong skills in coding for embedded microprocessors and FPGAs: C/C++, Assembly, Verilog/VHDL.
  • Experience using and debugging common embedded communication protocols: UART, SPI, I2C, etc…
  • Familiarity with Embedded IDE tools: MPLAB (MCU) & Vivado (Xilinx FPGA) preferred.
  • Proficient with laboratory testing equipment and practices: Power Supplies, DMM, Oscilloscopes, Logic Analyzers, Etc.
  • The applicant must be extremely self-driven to complete the work and go beyond the details to suggest new designs and system improvements.
  • Extremely familiar with Microsoft Word/Excel/PowerPoint/Visio [or the Unix Equivalent].
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Attention to detail and ability to work with complex systems.
  • Project management abilities to manage deadlines and priorities.
  • Continuous learning mindset to stay updated with emerging technologies and industry trends.
  • The applicant is expected to have excellent communication skills to generate and present the necessary documentation.


DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BS in Electrical Engineering or equivalent (MS Preferred).
  • 2+ years of industry experience working directly in embedded systems design and testing in a hands-on and requirements-driven setting.
