Job Title: Plant Controls Engineer
Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Plant Controls Engineer to support the installation, programming, troubleshooting, and maintenance of manufacturing and automation equipment within a fastener production facility. This hands-on role focuses heavily on programming, with no travel required. The engineer will primarily engage in programming and troubleshooting automation equipment, collaborating closely with maintenance, engineering, and production teams to ensure equipment reliability, efficiency, and safety.

Responsibilities

  • Program, troubleshoot, and modify PLC and HMI systems for new and existing plant equipment.
  • Develop PLC programs from scratch and support ongoing improvements to existing logic.
  • Troubleshoot PLC controlled industrial equipment, including cold rollers and packaging machines.
  • Support automation platforms, including Mitsubishi PLCs.
  • Diagnose and resolve control system issues to minimize downtime and support production.
  • Design and develop electrical control systems for new equipment builds and machine upgrades.
  • Create and maintain electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and panel layouts.
  • Specify and select electrical components, including PLCs, HMIs, sensors, safety devices, power supplies, relays, contactors, and VFDs.
  • Design and layout control panels, including component placement and wiring standards.
  • Ensure electrical designs comply with plant standards, safety requirements, and applicable codes.
  • Support new equipment integration by aligning electrical design with controls logic and mechanical systems.
  • Maintain accurate documentation for electrical designs and control system architecture.
  • Install and repair electrical components and control systems.
  • Run conduit and perform electrical rewiring as needed.
  • Install and modify control panels.
  • Troubleshoot electrical components and wiring issues.
  • Follow established preventative maintenance programs for controls and electrical systems.
  • Support improvements to preventative maintenance plans and standards.
  • Maintain quality documentation related to preventative maintenance and controls work.
Essential Skills
  • 1+ years of experience working as a Plant Controls Engineer.
  • 1+ years of PLC programming from scratch experience.
  • 1+ years of HMI development and support experience.
  • Strong experience programming and troubleshooting PLCs, with Mitsubishi PLCs preferred.
  • 1+ years of experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Experience following and improving preventative maintenance programs.
  • Strong written communication skills, including the ability to read and write ladder logic.
  • Associate’s degree in Engineering, Automation, Electrical Technology, or a related field.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience with electrical design and controls engineering.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes.
Work Environment

This role is based in a fastener production facility, where the Plant Controls Engineer will work closely with maintenance, engineering, and production teams. The environment is hands-on, focused on high-volume manufacturing operations, and requires a strong understanding of automation equipment and electrical systems.

This is a Contract position based out of Dexter, MI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $33.00 - $38.00/hr.
