Job Summary:

Will train experienced Medical, Certified or licensed Nursing assistant!

Summary

Under general supervision of the clinical director or board-certified physician specialist, performs Electroencephalograms, Polysomnograms, Home Sleep Apnea Testing, Multiple Sleep Latency Tests, and Evoked Potentials to obtain data for use in the diagnosis of clinical disorders of the nervous system and/or sleep disorders. Provides support for physicians performing Electromyograms as needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supports and promotes the mission and values of Covenant Health Ministry.
  • Performs EEGs, Evoked Potentials, and sleep testing as requested by ordering providers according to established policy and procedure.
  • Assures that tracings are properly marked and identified for the interpretation.
  • Gathers patient medical history, explains testing, and prepares the patient for procedure.
  • Communicates efficiently with medical and nursing staff when performing tests on inpatient floors.
  • Monitors the patient’s status and notes any abnormalities during testing. Demonstrates the ability to make changes or adjustments during recording as needed by the physician.
  • Provides technical analysis of EEG, EP, and sleep study testing when needed.
  • Demonstrates the ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations. Prioritizes workload.
  • Provides physician support coverage in EMG as well as clerical duties within the department when available.
  • Assures that required equipment and supplies are always available and properly handled. Reports supply needs to the manager.
  • Follows hospital and lab protocol for universal precautions, PPE, and infection control.
  • Schedules and registers patients as needed.
  • Maintains EEG daily log and works closely with providers to assure appropriate turnaround time of EEG & EMG results
  • Formulates and recommends policies and procedures required for effective, efficient, and economic operation of intra and inter departmental function.
  • Other duties as consistent with this role.

Job Requirements

Job Knowledge and Skills

  • Exhibits proficiency in the International 10-20 System of Measurement. Adheres to or exceeds minimum technical standards for performing EEG, sleep studies, and Evoked Potentials based on ACNS and AASM guidelines.
  • Demonstrates recognition and confirms physiological and non-physiological artifacts, abnormal EEG patterns, and normal variants.
  • Understands and monitors various physiological parameters, including but not limited to sleep stages, medication effects, EEG, EOG, EKG, EMG, oximetry, PAP and respiratory patterns. Provides technical analysis of data when required.
  • Exhibits competency in routine scoring of sleep results.
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in assessing, responding, and adapting treatment of care to meet the needs of the patient population served by the organization.
  • Computer knowledge and experience is necessary.
  • Maintains knowledge base by attending field related courses, conferences, and/or online CEUs.

Education and Experience

  • Formal EEG and/or sleep training or 2 years on the job training is preferred.
  • Board-registered by either the BRPT or ABRET strongly preferred.
  • HS diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • BLS certification required.

An equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed above may be substituted for the above education and experience requirements.

Working Conditions/Physical Demands

Must possess the physical and mental abilities to perform the tasks normally associated with this position that involves a combination of sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, and reaching. Lifting/carrying frequently up to 35 pounds, and occasionally up to 50 pounds. Some stress related to high level of responsibility for quality care.

Comp Range:

$27.50 - $37.88
