Position Summary
The Education & Library Services Coordinator is a highly visible, relationship-driven role that connects students, educators, researchers, families, and the public to Marathon County’s history through meaningful educational experiences and research access.

Serving as the primary liaison to school districts across the county, this position leads the development and facilitation of curriculum-aligned school programs, historic site experiences, and youth learning opportunities, and assists in library and research room services for visitors and genealogists.

This role blends hands-on teaching, museum and historic site facilitation, curriculum alignment, public research support, and community programming. The Coordinator works across MCHS properties and throughout the community to make local history accessible, engaging, and relevant for learners of all ages.

Key ResponsibilitiesSchool & Educator Partnerships
  • Serve as the primary point of contact between MCHS and local school districts
  • Build and maintain relationships with teachers, administrators, and curriculum coordinators
  • Align MCHS programming with Wisconsin state standards and classroom objectives
  • Coordinate scheduling, communication, and logistics for field trips and school visits
  • Develop, update, and facilitate engaging school programs and on-site experiences
  • Lead the Little Red Schoolhouse Program during operating seasons (September–October and May–November)
  • Ensure educational programs are age-appropriate, inclusive, accessible, and historically accurate
Library & Research Services
  • Provide research assistance to visitors and researchers
  • Retrieve and supervise access to library materials and work with the archivist when appropriate to retrieve additional information.
  • Support visitor access and copy requests
  • Track and report research room usage
Educational Program Development & Facilitation
  • Develop and facilitate public programs in coordination with the Visitor Engagement & Outreach team and the Historian
  • Serve as the primary point of contact between MCHS and the Marathon County Public Library system
  • Develop and implement history programming at local libraries
Kids History Camps
  • Play a lead role in planning and facilitating Kids History Camps
  • Support two planned 4-day camps in summer 2026 with future expansion
  • Assist with curriculum development, supervision, daily activities, and volunteer coordination
  • Help create a safe, engaging, and educational camp experience
Program Support & Evaluation
  • Assist with program evaluation, feedback collection, and reporting
  • Track participation data and school engagement metrics
  • Contribute ideas for thoughtful program growth and refinement
Additional Responsibilities
  • Support public programs and events as needed
  • Assist with training volunteers or interns supporting educational programs
  • Participate in department meetings and cross-functional planning
Work Context & Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs. and grasp objects
  • Ability to move throughout multiple historic properties and off-site locations
  • Frequent standing, walking, and active program facilitation (stairs required)
  • Regular in-person interaction with students, educators, volunteers, and the public
  • Occasional evening or weekend hours may be required
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Public History, Museum Studies, or related field preferred
  • Prior experience as an educator (classroom, museum, or comparable setting) required
  • Experience with genealogical research
  • Demonstrated success working with children and adolescents of all ages
  • Strong facilitation, communication, and classroom management skills
  • Passion for connecting students to local history and community
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple programs and schedules
