Job Description

This Drafter role supports the Design Engineer and project engineering team by developing, improving, and implementing design and documentation standards for systems products. You will design systems, manage assigned projects from concept through completion, and produce accurate drawings, submittals, and operating manuals that align with project requirements while minimizing rework. Responsibilities

  • Design systems and manage assigned projects from initial concept through completion, ensuring alignment with project specifications and timelines.
  • Create, update, and maintain detailed drawings and design documentation using 3D solid modeling and CAD tools.
  • Provide clear and timely design information to all appropriate departments to complete drawings and projects as originally proposed, while minimizing rework.
  • Review project scope with the Project Engineering Manager, Design Engineer, and Project Managers to maintain schedules and meet project deadlines.
  • Prepare accurate and complete “as-built” documentation and drawing files required for project completion and handover.
  • Review, create, and complete technical submittals and operating manuals for various projects in accordance with project requirements.
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures in day-to-day work and project execution.
  • Arrive on time and maintain reliable, punctual attendance to support project and team needs.
  • Keep the work area neat, organized, and conducive to efficient, accurate drafting and documentation.
  • Consistently accomplish assigned goals, meet deadlines, and achieve project objectives.
  • Support clients, colleagues, and the broader team through professional communication and collaboration.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of company and project information.
  • Work independently when required, bringing forward new ideas, innovations, and proactive solutions to technical and process challenges.
  • Perform other related duties as needed to help the team and company achieve overall goals.
Essential Skills
  • Minimum of 3 years of related work experience, or an engineering or technical degree combined with at least 1 year of related work experience.
  • High level of drafting literacy with strong 3D solid modeling and CAD experience.
  • Proficiency with any modern 3D design software such as Solid Edge, SolidWorks, or Inventor.
  • Experience reading and comprehending piping schematics and Process & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) for chemical piping systems.
  • Strong attention to detail to ensure accuracy in drawings, documentation, and project deliverables.
  • Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Ability to work independently, think through problems, and provide proactive, well-reasoned solutions.
  • Good problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot design and documentation issues.
  • Professional demeanor with strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and effectively prioritize workload.
  • Ability to perform effectively in a fast-paced, project-driven environment.
  • Piping experience related to system or process design.
  • Experience with SAP or similar enterprise resource planning tools.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Engineering or technical degree is highly valued when combined with relevant work experience.
  • Siemens Solid Edge experience is preferred for 3D modeling and drafting.
  • SolidWorks or Inventor experience is acceptable and considered strong alternatives to Solid Edge.
  • Experience with SAP is preferred for integrating design work with business and project processes.
  • Electrical experience is considered a plus and can enhance effectiveness in system design and documentation.
  • Ability to bring forward new innovations in design methods, standards, and documentation practices.
  • Experience working with P&IDs in the context of chemical piping systems and process design.
  • Background in mechanical drafting, piping design, or related design disciplines is beneficial.
  • Familiarity with additional CAD tools such as AutoCAD can further support project needs and flexibility.
Work Environment

This position is based fully on-site, working five days per week in a modern, recently remodeled office located in the RIDC West area. The environment is business casual, with attire reflecting a professional yet comfortable office setting. You will work in a fast-paced, project-oriented atmosphere with frequent collaboration across engineering, project management, and other internal departments. The role relies heavily on 3D design and CAD software, office productivity tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook, and enterprise systems like SAP. This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Pittsburgh, PA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00/hr.
